Question Installing MTI Carbon Fiber LID on my LS1??

I just received my MTI Carbon Fiber Lid and the K&N Breather Filter for MTI Airbox (needed for 2001-2002 vehicles). This carbon fiber airbox cover is beautiful!!! Now all I have to do is have it installed.

I was considering taking my car to the local performance shop to have the new lid installed. I was told that I would be charged about $50 for installation, give or take a few bucks. But now I'm thinking, wouldn't it be nice to save 50 bucks?

The problem is that I've never so much have changed a flat tire in my life. I know a lot about cars, their specs, and history but I know nothing of messing around with modifications.

I know that to many of you gear heads here, changing the lid is child's play. My question for you guys is, do you think I should attempt to change the lid on my own knowing full well that I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with these kinds of things?

So what do you guys think? To do or not to do? I know that there are supposed to be guides out there but most of them seem to assume that we all are gear heads.

If there is a chance in hell that I'm to do this, can one of you guys type down a step by step guide telling me what to do? Keep in mind that I have a 2002 and they require the installation of K&N Breather Filter as well.

Another question is, do I have to buy a K&N filter for this MTI since I have the K&N Breather Filter? Or can I buy a Holley Power Shot Filter to go along with the K&N Breather Filter? And can I use the stock filter for a few days with the new lid until I get the Holley filter?

Please help. Thanks.

Speaking of gear head installation guides......I can't even find one them now. Can someone help me with this? The one cheesy lid installation guide link I found a few days ago is now dead.

For the mother of Pete, please help.

Don't worry,
Check that wrist out. Feel ok? Can you turn a screw driver with it? good!! Thats all the mechanical inclination you need. You just need a little instruction. I'm sure someone else on here can give it to you

What I do know:
You CAN use the holley powershot filter with a K&N. Simple logic on that one.. two different places and uses..
I too will be using the Holley and a small K&N...

OK..

Thanks guys.

Any tips or recommendations?

If I install the lid, can I use the stock filter until I get my Holley Power Shot filter?

By the way, can I order my Holley Power Shot from Pep Boys or Auto Zone?

Thanks

All great questions. Yes, you can use the factory one till you get the Holley.

My lid had come with directions (Whisper). All I can say is it was SOOOOO easy to do. I've done mine 2x due to me having to bring my car in for service at the dealer. They said it was heavily modified. I just laughed at them.

Now as you can see I'm a female and know something about cars. But it was soo easy to do. I say go 4 it. If i was in Ill. I'd come over and help you out.

Yes use stock filter

Not sure on where you could order the correct Holley filter..
I have seen them in Summit or Jegs but they arent listed as the exact model for the LS1..

I think I will call the Holley people tomorrow and see what they say...
Ill post what I find...

Man, just unscrew the clamps with a flathead screwdriver, undo the electircal connector on the rubber duct, and flip those latches up on the front of the stock lid..Transfer the rubber duct to the new lid and put it back together, make sure that the tabs on the new lid go into the slots on the radiator supports so it seals then just latch is back up in the front and its done. Make sure you hook the connector and vacum line up again...Then your done...

You will pull a hose off the old lid that goes towards the fuse box. You plug this up with the breather filter and then most people tie it to the ABS controller. I re-ran my hose and put it so it looked like a cleaner install.
Check this picture out to see where I put it. K7N Breather location

I have since removed the A.I.R. system and don't need it.

Psycho Cabbage, here are a couple pics of the MTI lid and CF FRC's.
