Question I shouldn't have to ask this, but I am.........RE: tire size

What are the biggest tires that will fit on the back of an '02?? I'm planning on buying Z06 rims for my car one day (17's in front, 18's in back --- 18" x 10.5") and I'd like something wide (~315's maybe? ) but would I have to go with a real low profile (like 35 or 40 series) or would something like a 315/45 or 315/50 fit?? (if they even make those sizes?) I guess I want a lot of tire, since I don't ever plan on lowering my car, but I don't want to totally sacrifice a smooth ride (or the traction from a little extra sidewall ).

Without "modifying" the wheel wells, how big can I go??

Thanks guys.

This guy here had 325/30/18 tires on his Camaro (Michelin no longer makes that tire)

http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/spdrcr7/v...c=ph%26.view=t

That is some good looking meat there. He was running 255/30/18's on the front with some 18x8 inch wheels.

And this guy below was running 315/30/18 tires on his car:

http://gallery.consumerreview.com/ca...TT-for-web.asp

Pirelli makes the p-rossi tire in a 315/30/18 size, and Michelin makes the Michelin Pilot Sport in a 315/30/18. If you call tirerack.com and ask, they sell the Michelin for $345 each. Those are the only two manufacturers that make that size tire. It is a Porsche OE size tire.

Going that wide you will need to run a 30 series tire on an 18 inch wheel to keep it around the stock tire diameter.

I am still undecided if I am going to try the 315/30/18's on my 18x10 inch wheels, or just go with a 285 or 295/35/18. I know if a 17x11 with a 315 tire can be squeezed in, there is no reason a 315 tire on an 18 inch wheel won't fit.

Hey, thanks a lot man! I've since realized that there aren't as many sizes available for 18's as there are for 17's, but it seems that a lot of companies make 295/35/18's. That may be what I go for (when the time comes), but I'm still going to consider 315's. The problem is, I don't want to sacrifice too much sidewall, so I don't necessarily want something as low-pro as a 30 series. I guess I'll just have to wait and see at the time (which won't be until next year at the earliest..........I'm just doing some research early).

Anyway, thanks again.

WHY? WHY? WHY?
Why are so many of you so caught up in adding more rubber to the back of the car?!??! Ever hear of Less is MORE! Why add more rubber (ie. FRICTION) when you can do the same with less and be better off.. Now if you said you were going to road race I would understand it more.. but for drag? There is so much more available.. If 400RWTQ can hook up on 245's there is no need for more until you can no longer hook up IMO..

As for 315's I had a friend that threw some on his WS6.. He had to bang the wheel well a bit and it would rub on occasion.. I AM NOT FOND OF THIS AT ALL!

Good luck!

I understand what you're saying, but is there no gain at all?? Or is it just not worth it??

Part of my reasoning though, is that I like the looks of wide tires. My friend has 295/35/18's on the back of his '96 T/A, and yes it looks good. BUT, I'd like to go a little wider if I could. I know that what you're saing is true though............there may not be a need to go wider, but I just want to go wider.

I still haven't bought new rims & tires though anyway.........gotta what 'til more cash flows my way. Even when I do (which won't be for awhile) I haven't make a firm decision yet anyway.

My point exactly. There's just something about the looks of a massive chunk of rubber in the fenderwells that brings a smile to my face. Hell, I may not NEED it or even USE it, but I want it to look the way I want it to look.

I was just about to try putting some 315/30/18's on my car but had to sell the wheels I just bought due to some unexpected things that came up, but I will be trying this in the next month or two after tax season is over.
