I need newbie help with my LS1
I need newbie help with my LS1
I recently bought a 00 Formula. I am wanting to start to mod my LS1, but not sure about what to do. I currently have the SLP cat back exhaust. I am about to order my intake. From here I am not sure where to go. I am wanting to do a cam along with a new intake manifold and some other things. When I do my cam I am going to to some valvetrain updates as well. Rocker, springs, retainers, etc... I was hoping that you guys could help me figure out which cam and rocker combo would work best for me. I know I should upgrade my pushrods as well. So, if you guys can help me find the best combo, that would be great.
Mods I would like to do are: Cam, pushrods, rockers, valvesprings, retainers, intake manifold, headers, and other supporting mods.

I will eventually do heads. Just dont have the cash flow right now. After doing some research this is what I think I might be doing. Seems pretty basic but its a start.
LS6 Intake Manifold
LS6 T/B
LS6 Cam
LS6 valvetrain.
Opinions? Please give as many as possible.

Re: I need newbie help with my LS1
whats up man. the best thing to do first is to get all the bolt ons before you get a cam. i would get a lid for my next mod. all lids are the same. but i would look into the slp flowpac setup. its got a lid, k&n i believe and a smooth bellow which supposedly smooths the airfllow and it also has a ram air kit. then i would do headers. definitely go full lenth headers. some cheap ones are pacesetters, flowtechs, and edelbrocks. the mid expensive are hookers and jethot.then the most expensive are kooks, flp, qtp. if your car is an auto i would get a stall. but definitely get all the bolt ons first before you get the cam. hope this helps.

SSRA
lid (any lid)
ls6 intake
ls6 cam
ls6 springs with titanium retainers if you REALLLY want (not really needed)
headers (your choice...LTs are the best)
computer tune
i don't think the ls6 had a different TB...and even if it did there won't be much gains. you can just port your stock unit for $150 or so or do it yourself.
the rockers are pretty much the same i think too. and alot of camshafts are not compatable with aftermarket higher ratio rockers. you could install the Yella Terra full roller rockers, little bit stronger, full roller instead of just half like stock, and you won't have to worry about the needle bearings failing.
do the basic supporting mods before the cam...read this board...the first 5 pages probably answer most of your questions. and for god sake learn to use the search!
after you have all that done...then think about the cam

Re: I need newbie help with my LS1
I do have an auto. What stall would you suggest getting? I am going to order my intake tonight when I get off work. Not sure what lid I will be going with. Probably the SLP. I have heard a lid is a lid, so thats the one I will be going with. Headers I have been looking at the hooker headers. The cam will definately be last. I know that the motor has to breath properly before I add a cam.
Re: I need newbie help with my LS1
check out flowtech LTs....coated, with off road ypipe, metal oem gaskets, block off plates for AIR and EGR, O2 extensions......under $600

Re: I need newbie help with my LS1
For stalls you need consider how big your cam will be and will you be using the car on the street alot. If you are going to put a huge cam in (230+) and won't see much street use then you are going to want a 4000+stall, but if you are going to go with a mild/medium cam (220mild 228medium) and still do alot of driving on the streets, i'd look into a TCI SSF 3500, Yank SS3600 or Vig 3200 along with a trans cooler. A stall along with the LS6 intake, lid, tires and ehaust you should be in the 12.5 range in the 1/4mi
