Unhappy I have a squeeking sound from my engine

My 99 LS1 has a squeeking sound at idle. I think it might be the serpentine belt, but im not sure. The sound is kind of a rhythmic chirp/squeek. Can you guys tell me what this is?

As the link in the above post states, it's likely the idler tensioer pulley. When you do it, look at the belts too. They may need to be replaced, depending on wear.

ya my 99 TA does it too, i hate it, it makes it sound like an old worn out car

I just bought my '98 Z28 and I've got a similar noise. My car only has 37000 miles on it though...seems very fast for that pulley to wear out. Is that normal?

I've got a '98 w/ 55k miles. When I start the car in the morning the squeek/chirp is the worst but goes away after about 15 min of driving. I am about to go outside and install the new pulley.

I don't think it's the pulley wearing out.I think it's the fact that GM either used the wrong part number pulley or the shims were incorrect which caused the pulley to be out of proper alignment.
