I have some ?'s about the hpp3
I have some ?'s about the hpp3
I just got my hpp3 in the mail and started messing with things. I have two questions.
1. It didn't ask me if I wanted to install Hypertechs settings, just threw me into custom settings. The book said it should have asked. Why didn't it?
2. Hpp3's engine tuning option gives me ping on wot. I turned it off and instantly the ping went away. I did a little research and found that it's because my thermo is stock and not a 160*. Anyone switch to a 160* and cured the ping?
I hope I can cure the ping because I instantly noticed a difference in low end tq and power. I liked it.
I'm gona mess with the shift points but I'll do a little more research on that before I even start.

Re: I have some ?'s about the hpp3
Q1) "Do you want to install 'Power Tuning' option"? Yes or No. That's the only "Hypertech" setting. Everything else is your choice from there on in.
You probably will notice pinging, and it's not good at all. I don't believe that a 160 t-stat is going to fix that!?
Hell, I've run 94 octane and my car has still pinged (I've since pulled the power tuning option). It's too bad though, because it does give the car more power (I have dyno and track slips to prove).
Adjusting shift points is about the only thing the Hypertech is really good for.

Re: I have some ?'s about the hpp3
I had the same problem with WOT pinging, above 4K RPM. Hypertech has a revised tuning (not quite as aggressive) for the 2001+ cars and it eliminated my pinging when they changed me to the new tune.
Did you buy your HPP used, or did you buy it from Hypertech? Look at the back of the programmer and let me know what version number is listed.

Re: I have some ?'s about the hpp3
I bought my HPP used. The version is 17.13.01
I put a 160* thermo in it and set the fans with the HPP3 and it seems to have cured it, I couldn't here it at all. The fans seem to run all the time now, wouldn't the power draw through the alt negate some of the power created by the 160* thermo?
