I feel dumb for asking this

What is the shift pattern on a 98 to 2002 A4 car?

My IQ dropped 10 points for asking that.

What exactly do you mean?

Manually shifting?

If thats it, let the computer do the shifting.

Well, usually when you've got the car in (D) or D (overdrive/drive) then the shift pattern starts in 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th!!! (oh, and then converter lock-up).

Just wondering if it was 1 , 2 ,D , (what I thaught it was ) Or if it was 1 , 2 , 3, D , like the montie SS.

Now you know why I felt dumb asking that.

Question

What's the difference?!

"1, 2, 3, D" or "1, 2 , D, (D)" ?!?!?!

Some old cars came with "L" instead of 1 or 2, but it could be:

1, 2, 3, 4 for all it really matters!?
