Found a used programer for a 98 TA is there a difference in years for these programers or are they not year specific? Plus the guy said he got 72 extra horse from this programer is that even possible?

 

It's been a few years since I used one for gears, fans, tranny, etc., never even tried their tune - but 72 HP - no way. I'm sure the '98's were different from the others. Check out hypertech's site, you can check out the applications, believe there's a tech support number there too.

They are year specific, and they must be returned to stock!. You read on the boards where guys will buy a used one and the seller keeps the tune in his car, so the programmer is married to his vin and won't work on the buyers car. You need to get the pn and cross it at Hypertech site to make sure it will work for your car. 72 hp claim = massive bs blizzard.
