Question Hypertech???? Or Chip?????

Would it be better to buy a Hypertech and tune manually( and hope i dont screw up) or take my car to a place by me (Street and Performance electronics) and have them put a chip in. or is the hypertech pretty user friendly??? And would it be good to but the 160 thermostat along with it????

Well, these cars can't get a chip installed because they are permanetly soldered to the PCM. Unlike the 3rd gen years and '93 F-bodies. You can either run Hypertech (programming sucks on mod'ed cars), custom tuning by an experienced shop, LS1-Edit (tune it yourself) or get a plug-in module (similar to HPP3, not like a chip).

this is one of those things that bother me

Hypertech is useless...
get a dynotune or www.PCMforless.com or LS1 edit

all with the exception of dynotune cost less and do a whole hell of alot more

dynotuning is alot of money but the best

you dont need any, and bang for buck i'm callin PCMforless
if you do decide to go that route, shoot me an email, i can get you free shipping ($15 or so, no biggie)

Cool

On a light bolt-on automatic, the Hypertech is NOT useless. Being able to adjust your shift points, alone, is worth it! There's a tenth or more to be gained in shift points, at times, because they're so bad from the factory. My stock 1-2 shift point was at a measly 5,400 RPM! Being able to fine-tune your shift points at the track is a big plus. You can also kick your fans on earlier, raise your rev limiter, adjust for gear or tire height changes, remove your top speed limiter, etc. The power tuning will work fine if you run premium gas and install a 160 t-stat. The high cost of custom dyno tuning is NOT warranted on a car that is mostly stock.
