Question Hypertech 160 deg. power stat ?

i just installed a 160 degree power stat from hypertech along with the programmer, however my temperature gauge still shows about 190 to 200 degrees? Is something wrong? please help!

I just recently installed the SLP 160 Thermostat and my temperature readouts are the same as well. Don't worry about it. from what ive read on this message board its normal. Sorry I cant give you a technical explanation on why this is, but im sure someone else here will send a post to explain.

The thermostat itself doesn't keep the temps at 160, the function is just to have the fans kick on at 160 instead of the stock temp. to try to cool the engine better. At least I believe this is the reason for your higher readouts..

I *think* the 160 means that it is fully open when the coolant flowing through it reaches 160 degrees... I guess that means that if the cooling system were 100% efficient (which no auto cooling system even comes close to) you would show 160 degrees on your dash, but since it isn't, your actual engine temp will be hotter.

Or, I'm wrong. It happens frequently.

From what I've heard the guages on the 99?-02 models are "lazy" meaning they are really slow at showing temp changes because people complained about the accurate temp gauge in the 98 because it would actually move and actually show the correct temp!

Imagine that, a gauge that actually tells the temp, and doesn't always point to "OK STUPID, IT'S FINE"!

THe stock gauge is POS. Mostly stays at 210.

My best test.. AC on max.. run down hwy 55
at 90F outside air.. the car runs about 195.

I have a digital temp gauge to let me know
when the fans need to come on manually..
