HP gains from headers
HP gains from headers
what kind of hp gains are ya'll seeing with the mac mid length headers with the high flow cats and y-pipe, are these good quality headers, anyone had problems with them yet, someone told me to get these since my car is lowered, and i never heard of them and wanted to see what others thought
Jason5,
I asked the same question some time back re: my '01 Z28. Minimal hp gains on a "bang for the buck" score sheet. According to most of the input I recieved, headers are maximized with MAF, and all the other weekend warrior bolt-ons. But even then, after $400 for headers and another $300-$600 for the other stuff, $1000 doesn't get you much more than 25-40hp.
Instead of headers, I went ahead and got the HyperTech chip. I put the settings at mid-range, not maxing out any setting. I actually like the way it runs WITHOUT the chip. For example, when I stomp on it and am going on a long, lonely highway to see how fast the car will go, it cuts out at "X" rpm's now, whereas it didn't before I installed the chip. Scared the @#% outta me when it did that, too. I did install a K&N air filter inside the stock air filter equipment, not expecting any real hp gains, I just like K&N's better filtering ability versus the stock filter.
As to the headers, it's your call... but don't get your hopes up too high, they won't make your Camaro a rocket magically!

actually for ~ $400 they give you a substantial amount of horsepower. About 22 rwhp. Put an off road Y on there with a cutout at the end of it for another ~ $200 and your looking at another 15 rwhp. You could drop that $200 and just run open headers for the same effect but you need that pipe to a cutout so yoiu can cap it cause youre gonna have a hard time avoiding cops and all the noise will drive you crazy if you run open headers 24/7. Overall its a pretty good deal. All that will probably give you about .3 - .5 gain depending on what other mods you have.
