how much does a new LS6 cost?

Im asking because I found a guy that is saying hes got a brand new, in crate, LS6 for $3500. My idea was to buy it off the guy and either swap it into my car and sell the old motor or tear it down and build up a monster with the old block

any ideas/feedback on my idea would be appreciated. thanks!

There's little difference between the LS1/6 and when modded make around the same power with the nod going to the LS6 due to a more aggressive camshaft and better heads.

The LS6 and 2001+ LS1 both have the LS6 intake.

The LS6 has the LS6 block, which isn't any better/worse than the LS1 block.

The LS6 has a tiny bit more aggressive camshaft.

The LS6 has smaller combustion chamber heads (62cc vs 64cc) and bigger intake runners (210cc vs 200cc).

To remedy the situation for WELL under $3500, do a heads/cam build on your LS1.

yea, I realize it would be cheaper to go heads/cam at that price, but I was thinking maybe a trade with cash added or even just offering less and trying to sell my current motor... I just am toying with the idea to have something to tinker with right now. I have the bug to work on my car!

$3500 is a bargain for a new LS6 crate engine. They were about $6000 when they were available.
