The bottom end just let go.

Had my car being tuned on the dyno. There had been something wrong for a while and I wasn't sure why I was losing power. I decided maybe it was something in the tune so I had it done. Thanks to my a/c clutch squealing away I didn't ticking time bomb in the motor and after pulling 430 on the dyno the ticking turned into a knocked and then we could barely keep the car running. The shop pulled the pan off the bottom and called me up and said I need a new block. I trust these guys because they are very good friends of mine.

Sooooo....

I figured I'd jump on here and ask for recommendations as to where I should go now without blowing a small fortune as I already have on this car. Should I just get a used block? A new performance block? Bigger Block? Fire away, they asked me what I wanted to do. I needed to let it all soak in and I haven't called them back yet.

Many vendors have forged 402ci shortblocks for $4000 assembled and ready to go. I'd go that route.

are you sure you need a whole block (i.e. did it crack?? ) or are they just saying you have a bad bearing or soemthing like that?? if that is the case you can probbaly pick up a new crankshaft kit or refurb what you have for a few hundred dollars and rebuild. Sure thats the hard route as compared to just droping in a new enginge but if cost is a concern....

I was considering changing everything out and putting in a stroker kit but found an 05 LS6 with 20k from a a guy we know for $1400. he's going with a bigger motor in his CTS-V and didn't have a use for the shortblock so it should be going in next week. It's no exactly a performance increase or anything but was pretty cost effective. I'll take a look at the block that comes out and if it's in good shape then maybe I'll put it in the shop and build it up as s stroker as money permist and then drop it in the car .. or maybe the Jeep.

thats a great price on that LS6 thinking almost to good to be true but if it's a guy you know and whatnot its probbably just good luck & timing.. I'd jump on that to get your car back on the road and then save the old block and build it up with a stroker in spare time

good luck with it

It's just the short block minus the heads since I don't need them. It's on it's way to the shop right now.
