How long will LS1 run ?
I have a chance to get a 2000 police camaro and wonder what it may be worth. It appears to be in good original condition. 131k miles, Rollbar, Ect.
Is this high mileage for the LS1 ?
I have a cavalier with the pushrod motor that is still going strong at 252k.
Thanx, Mark =^..^=

Re: How long will LS1 run ?
I'd pass it up. In terms of automotive longevity, the number of miles on a car isn't as important as the maintenance/care/resposibility that the car was shown.
Have you never seen the averag Crown Vic with white and blue paint take off from a red light? Holly smokes! It makes me sick thinking I pay for these cats to rag out their cruisers like I often see. Not all officers do this, there are still some respectful people out there so that should be kept in mind.
Also, when I think of having an LS1 on someone's police force, the phrase "let me show you what she'll do" comes to mind and may have been this poor car's life story.
I bought my LS1 car @ 95-ish on the odometer, and I have a friend that bought his at 48K on the odometer. The difference between these two cars is night and day. You might think you're saving money on a higher milage car, but it will all work out in the end to you paying the same after any needed repairs may have been paid for. That's the whole reason that lower milage cars go for more.
Yeah, I know I'm kind of on a soap box here, but as I type this, I'm about to head out the door to go pick up a power steering hose for my 100K mile LS1 car. Then, I'll come home and install it and continue looking for clutch #3 that's about to go in this car and continue looking for rearend parts to fix my broken rear.
...but I'd do it all over again.

Re: How long will LS1 run ?
the cars age has nothing to do with you going onto your 3rd clutch.. that most likely is driving style.
I am on the stock clutch.. have bought my car new in 2002 and I am hitting just over 70K miles. The clutch still holds and I can still launch.. I do not baby the car by any means. Its all in how you drive it. Some people just dont know how to drive a manual car..

Re: How long will LS1 run ?
another thing to think about with retired police cars is how many hours it sat idleing.
those are "miles" that don't show up on the odometer.

Re: How long will LS1 run ?
Don't do it. Those B4C's have cool things like silicone hoses and high power alternators but the cops run those things ragged.
I'm sure it still runs, but it has to be a little tired.
I say find another.
