Not trying to be a dick, but it's not "in that neighborhood", it's 6200. I have looked at numerous stock .bin files from all year LS1 f-bodies and the stock rev limiter is 6200.

I read on here not too long ago that the .bin file (if that's where the info is? ) actually showed 6190 rpm stock?! But hey, that's just another peice of "hear-say" .

Even with a stock rev-limiter (6200), I'd say it IS possible to hit 6600 RPM, but you'd have to nail the throttle and either quickly unload the motor (push the clutch) or maybe over-rev in 1st gear or something with the speed increasing quickly, so that the rev-limiter can't catch the motor in time, and I'm sure it would spike over 6200? At that RPM, I'd say pushrods are the main concern, as well as valve float and potential problems in the bottom end with stock rod bolts?

That 6190 was the fuel resume engine speed.

I am curious, what kind of bottom ends do the LS1's have? I heard they come with 6 bolt mains stock? This true for all Z28's? I am a LT1 owner soon to be LS1 owner. I know the block is aluminum, but I dont know if the mains are aluminum. 6 bolt mains makes it sound like they are aluminum, just wanna make sure.

Hey, we learn something new every day!!! Thanks for clearing that up.

ChvyCruzen, you're right, LS1's (and all Gen-III SBC's, including 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0L truck engines) use 6-bolt mains.....that's 4 in from the bottom, and 1 in from either side. They're referred to as "deep-skirt blocks", meaning the center-line of the crank isn't the bottom surface of the block like an old small block used to be.....the crank is tucked up a couple inches into the block, and the bottom of the bearing caps are flush with the bottom of the block. They're actually quite a solid piece if you ask me.

Since the blocks are aluminum, there are metal sleeves for the pistons. How about the mains? How are they reinforced?

lol hitting 6600 rpm on a stock z28 is easy, you have 2 optons:

1) any tuning program will let you adjust your redline

2) downshift to 1st at 80mph.
