How high can stock LS1's rev to?

I am having an argument with someone on the internet (god shoot me) over whether a stock LS1 can hit 6600 RPM's and he refuses to believe me until I offer solid proof. I have witnessed my tach hit 6600 RPMs before, but my car is stock with the limiter still there (cuts fuel at 6250 I believe?) so it could have just been off. But I know I've seen dyno sheets of people with stock LS1's !Rev Limiter hitting 6600 RPMs.....I couldbe wrong, I'm not going to act like I know for a fact that I am absolutely right. Anyway, if you guys can show me any dyno sheets of this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I ran 6500 for a year and about 250 passes at the track, until I had a FI fail and wash out number 5 cylinder.

I'm running 6700 now, H/C, hardened valve train, stock bottom end.

When my car was stock it cut off at 5900.

Corvettes are supposed to rev to 62 stock.

My car is cammed now and is set at 6700.

my stock valvetrain car shifts at just a shade under 6100 (tuned) and the rev limit is set to 6300.

If you're asking about an LS1 with the stock rev limiter, they will only pull to 6200. Period.

If you're asking what a stock bottom end will spin to, there a number of people (including myself) turning 6700+ RPMs.

this would be correct, we were spinning our h/c set to 6900. anything past 6500 is living on the edge with the stock rod bolts, but lots of people do it.

The stock rev limiter is 6250. 98-00's get risky beyond 6500, and 01-02 beyond 6700. People spin them higher, but you are greatly enhancing your chances of breaking something.

wouldn't recommend 6600 on a bone stock LS1. 6400 is pushing the limits of the ls1 fbody valvetrain, higher than that you'd best have hardened rods, springs, rockers, etc. Bottom end will hold up fine.

6600 rev limiter here with shift points set at 6500. Stock pushrods + LS6springs. These are conservative limits as it's my daily driver. 15k miles, 100+ passes, and no problems so far.

Re: How high can stock LS1's rev to?

stock tach's are known to be off by sight. in this case, ur tach is really off! unless you have some sorta programming done to your car (power programmer, ls edit, etc) ur car will not hit 6600 rpm in stock form! what you see on your tach, isnt always what the engine is spinning at. in your case, there isnt much benefit for spinning your engine that high, nothing positive comes from doing that. i would shift at or just over 6k rpm unless you wanna bend rods, and start dumping money to fix problems.

if you want to spin the car that high, i would suggest a cam upgrade along with valve springs, ret. hardened pushrods, etc.

your car will peak out around 6k rpm in stock form...some a little sooner, some a little later. My car with upgrades (head/cam package, plus a few more goodies) peaks out around 6700 rpm, with my limiter at 7k rpm...i certainly dont spin my car past 6700rpm, cause you are asking for trouble! im sure the bottom will hold it, but to me its just not worth it!

so to answer your question, in stock form your car wont hit 6600 rpm. but a stock ls1 can rev up 6600 rpm if you want it to, but not unless something changed your computer settings!

Yeah, why would you want to spin a stock motor that high anyway? That's a lot of weight to be throwing around. If you do spin that fast on a stock motor, like what was said above, you have no power there, just valve float. Overeving a stock valvetrain, w/out ls6 springs-somethimes they come stock, you might be left with a fist full of bent pushrods. That makes me nervous seeing the tach go that high. I'm expecting to see parts go flying through my hood.

Not to nit-pick, but stock rev limiter is 6200, not 6250.

Re: How high can stock LS1's rev to?

I remember some LS1 freaks in the lounge saying that if the LS1 valvetrain was stable at 6600+ RPM, it would do nothing but make more power because of the design. There are guys that change their rev. limiters just because of that and bring it up to 6500, 6600 RPMs. But like any information on the internet, they could have been off base with that. I'm no expert on the matter, its just the fact that it can be done and this other guy doesn't believe me, so I wanted solid proof for him. I'm not about to saddle my car up on the dyno and rev to 6600 RPMs though That would be suicide for my engine which is probably on its last leg right now.

I searched around, and have seen 6200/6250/6300. Not truly important, but it is in that neighborhood.

on the stock tuning we revved mine to a max of 6213 RPM on the dyno last year and it didnt bang the limiter.
