How fast are Z28s?

Just curious, but how much HP/TQ would a Z28 with basic bolt ons be putting out? What would it be running in the 1/4 mile?

Thanks!

What bolt ons are you refering to, theres a lot of them. Stock LS1s usually do mid to low 13s in the 1/4.

I'm guessing you have a new mach 1 and are going to race a ls1 sometime in the future. If you run one from a dig you should do fine but I think from a roll it would pull on you. It wouldn't be uncommon for a bolt-ons ls1 to get 320 or so hp at the wheels.

Seriously, faster than a Mach one. Read the posts here. Basic bolt on's put it up over 350 RWHP, mid 12's easy. Some LS1's can hit 11's with suspension work and a good driver. I put 322 RWHP with a catback and lid

Welcome to the board.

A Mach1 and LS1 would be a good run stock.

Once the modifying begins then all bets are off.

Well...

When I had my Z28 dynoed back in July, there was a brand new stock Mach1 and dynoed ~275-280 (don't remember the lb.ft's...) to the rear wheels while my Z28 dynoed 297hp/309lb.ft.

The almost 20hp difference makes up a lot even for a bad LS1 driver in the 1/4 mile.

Were not talking about racing on a dyno man.
The Mustang is almost 300 lbs lighter than us. Why do you think that a bone stock 260 hp GT can run with a 285 hp LT1 ?
Ive owned LT1s, GTs, LS1s and usually driving them every weekend at the track so I know a little bit about ET.
I have driven a bone stock $30,000 Mach 1 to a 13.27 @ 104 mph for a friend at the track.
Granted my LS1 ran lower times , but Ive seen many LS1s on here that have not hit 13.20s yet....driver or conditions are the cause, but none the less.

"Horsepower" is for bragging rights, "Torque" is what gets you moving.

Thumbs up Mach 1's rock !

Test drove an auto - can't tell you any stats, but SOTP told me that it ran dam well once it got up over say 2K RPM.

The autos come w/ 3.55's , so they have us by a bit vs. an A4's 3.23's.

(Don't know if the 5 speeds get different gears.)

I'd agree w/ LS1 mid to low 13's for basic stuff such as a lid and 1 or two free mods.

You think you see scoop behind the wheel of a SS ?

Shaker is about all you see while in the Mach.

Me likie.

I did just pick up a Mach 1 two months ago. I raced a friend of mine in a z28 with a few basic mods (I think). Off the line I was pulling away and from a roll at about 50 it was pretty even, but we didn't have too much room. We wanted to go a little more but couldn't find a place with no traffic so had to put off for another time.

Those camaros are nice cars though. My brother just picked up an 03 cobra the same time I got my mach. How do those compare to the SS?

WHAT were your bolt ons???? I have to know what put you at
360 rwhp.

REALLY want to hear this.

And btw, I read a link at Mustangs and Fast Fords that the Mustang is actually around 200 lbs heavier than a Camaro.

Check that out, but I would almost bet $ on it.

Really...?

According to Edmunds.com, a 2003 Mustang Mach1 weighs 3469lbs and 2001 and 2002 Camaro Z28 weighs 3439lbs.

A 2000 Z28 supposedly weighs 3306lbs.

Just to let you know...

Im not going by magazine weights on this.
Ive owned one 01 GT that weighed in at 3125 with 1/4 tank of gas and no driver. This was done at the local DMV scales 2 miles from my house.
I may be wrong and you guys may be right on the weight.
My GT did not weigh any where near 3300 lbs.
My GT bone stock ran back to back to back consistant 13.90 flat runs at 100 mph in the 1/4 with only 260hp too.
I owned an LT1 TA (97) that ran consistant 13.90s to 14.00 at around the same mph so you tell me how the GT is just as quick in the ET department with a LT1 making 25 more hp?

Right now my LS1 TA weighed in at 3342 on the same scales.
Granted thats not a 300 lb difference so I admit that me saying 300 lbs may be a little much.
