How does a cutout function?

Ok, so I saw a vid of a cutout in action. The MPP2 to be exact. (thanks, 95GRNZ). What happens to the exhaust when the cutout is closed? I was picturing it flowing through the muffler when its closed. This way I could keep the sound of my flowmaster when I want to cruise and let me open the cutout when I need the power. In the vid, it just looked like it didnt use the muffler at all. Also what type of power gains do you get from a cutout and whats up with the SES light problem? Does everyone get it?

Pics would be great.

you've got the idea ....exhaust flows out the cutout when open, resulting in less backpressure, resulting in more hp

when closed it flows through the muffler like normal

typical gains are 10hp

some guys are claiming dyno results of upwards of 15+ oon stock exhausts

I've had cutouts on all three of my f-bodies and never once have I had an SES light because of it.

I've never heard anybody having SES due to cutout...

Like stated above, the gains are pretty good: usually in the 10rwhp range. Not bad for a 40 dollar mod, eh?

Thumbs up

Should be about 30-40 bucks, depending on the place. Some may charge more, some less.

You should not have to pay more than $40! I was once at a local Mom and Pop shop and saw that they welded on a cutout for one of my customers for $25...not sure if it was their regular price or because the person came from us.

At any rate, shop around. Look for the smaller less commercial shops and you should get a good price for install. Good luck.
