Drive a 1985 Honda accord for a month, then drive your 3.8 V6. That's the difference you will feel. I have owned both 3800 V6 and LS1 (current Z), and the difference is best described as "Holy Sh*t". Don't want to get too technical there on you bud. You'll see.

forgot to add...

I saw some stock 2000 Z28 dyno results, as well as results of that same car after an aftermarket lid installation. They used the highest of 3 runs for both results.

Stock= 317 RWHP
Lid= 328 RWHP

That's pretty damn good considering they are rated 305HP, which I thought was at the crank. BONUS!

I believe average hp numbers are 315 rwhp, slightly lower for A4's. Given an 8% drivestrain loss (being generous) that would give you around 340 hp at the crank. If we knew how bad the actual drivetrain loss was, we could get a more accurate estimate.

Don't let these guys convince you that all LS1's dyno 300-320 RWHP stock. Some do but others dyno 280-300 RWHP. I have even heard of a few "slugs" that dynoed 275 RWHP. Then again I also heard of M6 "freaks" that dyno 320 RWHP.

01 & 02's will usually dyno in the 300-310 Rwhp range while 98-00's tend to dyno 280-295ish. Auto's also lose more HP in the drivetrain so some 01 & 02 autos might dyno just under 300. But once the modding starts they can do very well. 350-370 RWHP with bolt-ons and 400+ with just a cam!

Good luck with your new ride and welcome to the dark side

Thats true. I did forget about the 98 + 99's dynoing a little lower. My bad.

The factory rating (which is completely false ) is 305 HP for '98 - '00, and 310 HP for '01 - '02 Z28's and Trans-Ams. However, if you got the SS or the WS6, then they came with a different catback exhaust, as well as "ram air", so GM rated them higher, at 335 or 345 HP I think. BUT, I think most guys would agree that the engine in ALL LS1 cars is still capable of closer to 345 - 350 HP, same as the LS1 Corvettes, but GM just underrates the F-bodies. If the engine didn't make 350 HP, then how would it be possible for guys to dyno over 300 RWHP?!

I believe the 98-00 Z28's and Formulas were rated at 305. The SS and Trans Am had a rating of 320. All ratings saw a 5hp increase in 01-02. I think the Firehawk had a rating of 345 or so.

Don't believe internet dyno numbers ... people fudge 'em, trick 'em and dyno shops recalibrate so their numbers will compete ...

I dynod my '01 A4 at 278 rwhp stock ... never got more than 335 rwhp with all the bolt on's and 403 rwhp H/C ... and I consistantly out run other cars that have the "big" dyno numbers ...

Whether it's true or not, I'm sure some may argue that an M6 in your car would put down more to the wheels............it probably would, but by how much is the question?! Probably 5 - 10 rwhp more.

I agree that there probably are some "tuned" dyno numbers out there, but I don't discredit all of it, because I'm also not convinced there is a 40 HP difference between the Corvette LS1 and the F-body LS1. So, believing as I do, that the LS1 in the F-body puts out close to 350 HP (crank) then I think it's fair to expect 300 - 315 rwhp based on 10 - 15% drivetrain loss (or 280 rwhp based on 20% loss, which may be the case for your car? ).

It's not uncommon to have 2 identical cars, motors, transmissions, and for one of them to simply out-perform the other one. That's why there is such a range in #'s for LS1 cars, no matter whether they're 98's or 02's. Another point is that some have run into the 12's (12.9's) bone-stock, while some couldn't even hit 13's, such as my car, which only ran 14.1 @ 103 on its first trip to the track.
