Question High oil consumption, 2000 TA ?

Not sure if anybody else is experiencing this, but, my TA seems to drink oil.. about every 4-6 weeks seems to go down a little, about 2-3 months and about quart + low... I know these run 210 F and run hot..assuming this is the reason ? I noticed on the alldata.com website this was one of the reported service bulletins... anybody having same prob ? wondering if Fbody car is worth the pains !

thanks,
jim

F-bodies are prone to use some oil. Some a bit more than others. Mine goes pretty much down to the "ADD"-line on the dipstick between oil changes (3-6K).

I don't consider that being too much...

Depends what you want from your car. I'm not sure what other pains you have with your car, but to me the F-body is the best bang for the buck.

Before I ever bought F-body, I did some research and found out that they require constant maintenance and have some quirks here and there, so nothing has really been a surprise to me.

I had my car up at the dealership earlier today... the service advisor I talked to told me that it wasn't unusual for my '99 to burn up to 1 QT of oil every 1,000 miles? it currently has 58K miles which I don't believe is extremely high.

I think they're trying to avoid doing any warranty work on the motor. The excessive oil consumption/piston slap sound was one of the complaints I listed on the paper work. I've put 2800 miles on the car and it's already burned over a quart of oil and the piston slap has gotten louder/lasts longer. One of the other service advisors said they could do a consumption test if I wanted.

They only run that hot in slow city traffic or stopped idling for awhile. The "temp" gauges on the 99-02's are idiot lights, it does not really show you what the car is running.

The 98's had real temp gauges, so I can tell you the cars run around 180 the majority of the time, the gauge only goes up in the situations mentioned above. When your fans kick on, that is when you know you really reached 210.

GM considers 1 qt per 1,000 miles normal. My car always runs 1/2 quart low, so I just quit adding oil. It never goes below that.

I also have a 1998 Z28 and every 1,000+/- miles I also have to add a quart. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with mine, but apperantly this is happening to many people. I had 53,000 when I first bought my car.

mine consistantly uses about 1 litre(quart)per 3000 miles. right from the first start of the motor. I now have 94000 kms on the car. runs great.
