High mileage thread.. Over 100,000

Well picking up another LS1 to join my SS this week. The mileage is at 150k but im not really worried about that since i have owned a LT1 that i sold with 184,000 on it. I also seen a LS1 with my own eyes at a dealership with 188,000 on it. Anything to look for? Please all high mileage owners chime in here. thanks

Mine's at 107k. I wouldn't be too worried about the engine, but I would definitely take into account everything else. Trans, rearend, susp., etc. I just noticed that my rear main seal is leaking, as is the rearend. I guess if the price is right, then go for it. Mind telling us what year and what car?

Good point, I forgot about that since I don't have them anymore.

155k here, no problems at all! Just keep that oil changed every 3k. Most LS1's with that kind of mileage got them from the highway. No worries, unless it was ragged on by some punk kid.

120K here, no probs at all. Just check the cats as they tend to get clogged around 70-80K. Put some new plugs and wires in her and get ready for the ride.

Mine had 150 on it when i bought it now it has 212,xxx miles and still going strong. Only thing done to the car is exhaust and 3.73 gearing. Just started to leak some power steering fluid the other day though. Tranny shifts great but have had problems with the computer.

Re: High mileage thread.. Over 100,000

We just pulled the LS1 out of my buddy's '01, and it looked GREAT after 80K miles. It still had all of the cross-hatch marks in the cylinders, and the bearings (rod and crank) all still looked brand new. I was very impressed, as it has not lived an easy life.

After seeing his motor @80K, I'm feeling pretty good about mine even at 109K miles.

Re: High mileage thread.. Over 100,000

I'm at 137,3xx and it's still running strong as ever! the last record was 14.1 at 99 something, with the stock 2.73 rear end (worst decision by GM ever!). The car was mostly highway driven I think, as the front has been bombarded with craters from highway rocks and such. I bought it with 132,5xx for $3500, and when I got home it was at 133,1xx. On that note, let me tell you that toll works do NOT know directions! Ask them if we're heading in the right direction for Rochester, and we end up 44 miles from NYC...something is wrong.

Well glad to see it is good. You do have a LT1 car not a LS1. We all know LT1's have stood the test of time. The LT1 I just sold 3 weeks ago had 117,500 on it and i sold it for $3200. Also i have personally owned a LT1 car that had 183,000 miles on when i sold it!

check for valve float at high rpm. stock valve springs are probably weak by now.

I've put a lot of miles on mine. I'm at 170xxx miles and running strong. It ran in 13's last time I took it to the track. I'm taking care of it and running it until its rebuild time. :-D
