High HP Guys, what tires for street?

Hey, I've got a few mods, and working on a procharger kit. I'm in need of some tires, and was wondering what kind of tires will I get the best traction and most mileage out of for the street? I will have tires specifically for the track too, but I need something that I can drive decently on the street with without breaking traction at half throttle. THanks.

BFG KD's? - Don't get caught in the rain and lucky to get 20K miles.

BFG KDW's? - Break loose easier, but last longer than KD's

SZ50 EP's? - Decent grip...20K+ miles

Kuhmos? - cheap, noisy & short life span, but sticky

The main problem is the contradiction. If you want grip, you need a sticky tire. But, sticky tires don't last as long. I run Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP's. They hold pretty good for street tires in dry/wet conditions...even under full throttle. But, I don't have the 450+rwhp that you'll have with the supercharger.

BFG KD's are that bad in the rain?
The firehawks seem to be good tires.

I was thinking some nitto's myself. I guess my #1 thing is mileage, #2 is how it handles in the rain (I drive OCCASIONALLY in the rain) and #3 would be traction. I know I can't get the best traction with a long lasting tire, but I'd like to try. What do you think is better? Firehawks, or Nittos? Thanks.

Hey, one more thing. What do you guys think about running a 315 tire on a 9.5" rim? Will it help traction at all? I thought it couldn't/shouldn't be done, but there are a few guys here who have run in the mid 11's with those tires on a 9.5" rim. What's the opinion on that also? Thanks.

Overall tire height plays a bigger role in traction than tire width the majority of the time. I have a friend who just switched from 295/50/15's on an 11 second s10 to 255/60/15's and he hooks up just as well on the smaller tires, plus he has noticed far less rolling resistance with the smaller tires driving the truck around town (better gas mileage too). I think a 275 would be as wide as I would go on street tires for most applications.

What nittos are good in the rain? I drive in most all weather since my Z is my only car.

nitto NT555's are good in the rain. note- this is NOT the 555R drag nitto. when switching from BFG's to the 555's, it took significantly more effort to break them loose. got 24k miles on them, and plenty of tread left. i think 555's are going to be the only tires i put on her, pretty sticky, good in the rain, and good longevity...

don't know how they work at the track, never been there...

Another vote for Nittos. If you want 315's get 11 inch rims for the back. The extra width on 9.5's will be all flex, no traction (yeah you'll have tractioni but none more than 275s)

I've got Nitto's and love them. The DR's hook like no other. As far as Nitto's vs. Firehawks, and you're more worried about long-lasting than grip, Firehawks all the way...

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's in 275/40/17 on my car and couldn't be happier. They handle extremely well, stick like no other and drive like a dream in the rain. They have a really aggressive looking tread pattern as well, which looks really nice on the car and they're pretty quiet. I've only got a couple thousand miles on them, so I can't tell you too much about wear, but they should last 25k+ miles. Check out tirerack.com for customer reviews on different tires.

Aren't those the stock tires? My stock tires SUCKED traction wise. I am running dunlop SP sports now, and the traction is FAR better than the goodyear eagles were, and they're a lot cheaper.
