High HP Guys, what tires for street?

No, they are not the stock tires... the stocks are Goodyear Eagle GSC's or GA's. The F1 GS-D3's are a much better tire than the stockers.

There isn't much out on the market as far as street tire goes that would allow me to hook on the street. That is why I am now driving on 315 Nitto Drag Radials every single day. They are decent in the rain to a certain mph, but I wouldn't take it over 60-65. It also depends on how much water is on the road. If it has been raining hard, my car is all over the place but if you know how to handle the car and leave room for error, you should do just fine. Otherwise, go with the SZ50's. A good tire but if you are making alot of power, you won't hook if you try to hammer the gas. You will learn how to control the throttle and how much is too much after a while.

how is it the ferrari's and porsche's are able to handle the power? they make gobs of power, and are very controlled.

so your saying it is their transmission gearing that allows them to not spin their tires so easily? Can I go to a transmission shop and have them change the transmission gearing?

i guess you coudl do that, but you would probably run slower in the 1/4. even if you could hook up better, you would need to get them so low it would make you considerably slower

It's pretty easy to spin the tires on a Ferrari... there is nothing special on them... the same rules apply. You can put good tires on the car, but there's more that plays into traction than just tires. Ferraris have a very nicely tuned and specialized suspension that helps them keep traction. This is in combination with the tires, weight distribution (rear engine, so the weight is over the rear tires), gearing, etc... You still have to be careful in those cars, they can get away from you pretty quickly.

Yep i just looked at the f1's and tire rack says they are very good....i am torn between those and the firehawks....the firehawks come in 16/ 50/ 255 and the f1's only come in 245s...how much difference would that extra bit of width make?

I had 315 SZ50's on my Impala (big horsepower car), and there were great for about the first 3000 miles or so, but then they lost a lot of their gripping power after that. I spoke to a Firestone rep, and he told me that the tires are actually two compounds, a traction layer and a wear layer. Once you are through the traction layer, they really are just an average tire. Within the first 3000 though, I've never driven on a stickier street tire.

I currently have Nitto Drag 315's on my Z06, and they have actually lasted quite well. I've got about 10.000 on them, and they still have a little way to go before they need to be replaced. Having driven on basically every tire available, I'd say the Nitto's, although they are not the best rain tire (although I've even driven in snow with mine, it just takes a controlled right foot).

I agree on the Nitto DR's if you are going to get a 315, or maybe the 555RII in a 275/40/17. I have been driving on these for years, and reliably get 10-12K miles out them, and they do not get hard like so many tires that suck the last half of their life.

Bridgestone S03's are another great tire, but for the price, you can get two sets of Nitto's and just as many (or miles) total miles. The Nitto's are stickier was well

I would not put a 315 on a 9.5" wheel, as your ultimate contact patch will be the same as a 275, but with a heavier tire

Okay, if you want tread life and good in the rain, BF Goodrich KDWs. Treadwear of 400, i have them on the front and they are excellent tires. Take corners well. They handle nicecly in the rain. I cant really say how well they hook up since they are on my 17s up front (I have 18s on the rear) but I hear its pretty good. If you want traction then BF goodrich Drag radials. I have those on my rear wheels. No street tire on earth hooks as well. I couldnt spin those tires doing a break torque in reverse. BFG makes really good tires. You cant go wrong with their regular street tires or drs.
