Post Hey, I have an idea

Not that I have the money to do this, but has anyone though about dropping a LS6 into an fbody? It should fit in the 98-02's, but what about a 93-97? I saw a complete LS6 kit for sale on the Sallee Chevrolet site for aboutt$7.5K. Put that in front of your T-56 and see what happens.

Yes, this has been done. I just recently talked to a guy on LS1.com who has one in his F-Body. It is very easy to get the same performance out of an LS1, seeing as how both engines are nearly identical mechanically, so it is a waste of time and money in my opinion. Get your heads ported and bigger valves installed, and get a good cam and you easily outdo the LS6, which only really puts out about 40hp more than the LS1 (2002).

Besides the prototype I don't know. It would seem like a waste to take out a LS1 or even LT1 for a LS6 when you could probably use bolt ons to make up the difference in hp with a lot less cost.

it makes a little sense on the 98-00 cars, but is utterly pointless on the 01-02 cars. The ONLY difference that applies to F-bodies between the LS1 and LS6 is the cam and heads. The block and intake are the same. the exaust manifolds may be different but they wouldnt fit an F body anyway. The MAF is different for 02 but thats not really part of the engine, and the difference is very minimal, I belive its de screened is all.

On the 98-00 the intake is different and the Short block is different (The 01 up is a tad stronger and other minor stuff has been done)

its easier and cheaper to swap heads and cams, you could get LS6 stuff if you wanted.

How is it cheaper? A 02 LS6 has 405 horses, anda LS1 has 375, and that's out of a Vette. Wouldn't it make sense to swap in a LS6 and then add bolt ons? I'm not going to junk the LT1, I was thinking about putting one in a '70-'73 Camaro with a 6-speed.

Are you serious about not beliveing its cheaper to swap heads and cam vs swaping an entire motor?

you never asked about an earlier f bod, so I didnt mention it
