Post Hey guys help me out-->Tranny Problem.

Um just finished installing a new longblock on a 01 A4 formula.Transmission will not engage to drive or anything. I don't think my buddy who helped me out,put tranny oil in the Converter.Question,Would that cause the tranny not to engage to drive?Fluid is fine and linkage works.

Just found out that we didn't use the Required Dextron III tranny oil that was stamped on the side of the tranny.Darn ...Will this cause the tranny to not shift into D?MAn,I think we used some conventional tranny oil from the local store.

Using the wrong fluid will not prevent it from engaging gears. The new fluid is just electronics compatible, but the old stuff should work. What's the level on the dipstick after you run it through the gears? If it's low, keep adding. A dry torque conv. will eventually fill after running the engine, it should take less than a minute. Did you remove the torque conv.? If so, it may not be piloted in the pump correctly. By now it's probably damaged. Best check the trans. pressures to see if the pump is making pressure. Good luck.
