Changin the Tranny Oil

I'm gong to change the oil in the tranny really soon, like today, and I have a question, I can't get to the filler plug unless the car is on ramps. So my question is, is it okay to fill the tranny while the front of the car is on ramps? Will this angle greatly affect how much oil I can put in the tranny?

Thanks

The easiest way (in my opinion) to fill the tranny after draining it is to remove the shifter and pour it in from the top. It takes 4 quarts. No need to check the level like motor oil. Just make sure you put some silicon on the drain plug when reinstalling it.

Ummm.....I don't think I want to take out everything just to put in some oil.... What is this silicon stuff? Can I just use some teflon tape?

I changed my tranny fluid last week. Of course I threw it on it lift. I would try putting the car on a ramp and maybe throw the rear on jack stands. Drain it, fill it. I used a pump to fill it up. It hooked up to the quart of oil and I pumped it in there til it started coming out. I used Royal Purple MAX ATF.

I haven't looked to see where the filler hole is, but if only the front is up on ramps, would that ovefill or underfill the tranny? I have any idea how to do this and I'm going to see if it works.

The drain plug is on the passenger side, the fill side is on the driver side. I would assume it would be okay to fill it with the car on the ramps. Just make sure 4qts get in and you should be okay. Otherwise, just fill til it starts coming out of the fill hole.

Did you use any thread sealer/locker on the drain and/or filler plug?

nah. Prolly should've, there was some on the threads when I took it off. I don't think you really need it on there. IMO. Don't over tighten the plug however.
