Question help on welding an exaust on with out fring the electronics

i have a 99 camaro z-28 and i want to weld the slp lm exaust together and i want to no what to unhook so i dont' fri thje computer and electronics on the car because god knows i need to buy all new electronics. like i need a new hole in my head so ne help would greatly apprecieated

I would assume he is concerned about using an arc welder since an arc welder uses electricity (basically the rod arcs with the exhaust pipe creating heat that welds the metal together). I've never welded an exhuast before and have wondered this myself but I have also never heard of anybody having problems with it. I would think as long as you disconnect the battery it should be fine. Maybe somebody with experience can comment.

I wouldn't use the ECM as the ground.


No problems as long as your ground is connected near the site of the weld.

Ive always unhooked the ground @ the battery before I weld. (habit that my dad ingrained in to me.) And have never had a problem. Mike

Just remove the PCM and unhook the battery. This takes all of about three minutes. I do it whenever there is welding to be done on my car.
