Help for more sotp feel.
I just got a 99 Z M6 and I was thinking about 4 10 gears. Have any of you guys experienced these and how will my car respond? I also heard that us gear makes good ones. THanks!!
Ok. I am convinced that 4:10's are the way to go. I want to plant my passengers head in to the seat and I think 4:10's are the right choice
THey have to come after the loudmouth exhaust though........

go 3.73's (Motive gears, VERY quiet) and weld your axle tubes. 4.10's will be fun, no doubt but u will be hard pressed to find traction on street tires and when u throw on a sticky tire, there is always the chance of breaking the weak *** ten bolt.
I don't have gears, so I wouldn't have first hand experience with the increase of SOTP, but I know it's noticible. Also, pulleys seem to make a difference too. But when I got my pulleys, I could definitley feel a difference.

Changing the gears will definitely give you a noticeable SOTP improvement
. As long as you can get traction, you'll benefit at the track too. I can't relate any personal experience with gears in LS1 cars (yet
), but I know that when I switched from 2.56 to 3.42 gears in my '81, I was like "holy Shyte!!!
"
..........it was like a whole new car!
I'm planning on installing 3.73's in my car (A4) this year (unless someone convinces me before-hand that I should stop at 3.42's) so I think with the M6, you'd be fine dropping to 4.10's (since 3.42 -> 3.73 really isn't a big drop).
Aside from the big stuff like heads/cam, superchargers, nitrous, I don't think there's one single mod that will throw you through the seats like lower gears will
, so that's my vote!
