Question Help me out on future mods!!!

I just totalled the car in the sig about 2 weeks ago and I am now looking for an Ls1 z28. I know a lot about lt1's but not a whole lot about the ls1's. I am going to get a 99 or 2000 z28 m6 and have decided to go with loudmouth exhaust and a fipk. After that, I want 4.10 gears and then I am clueless. How much will I have to do to make it faster than my old car. (in the sig) I never dynoed or ran my old car but it seemed pretty fast. I do not want to do any head or cam work just yet either. No nittrous or supercharger as well. Just every single bolt on, suspension, and tires. Any ideas anyone?THanks!

Cool

From what little I know (coming from a 3.4 V6 myself) the LS1 responds OUTSTANDING to any intake/exhaust mods. The motor breathes VERY well and the stock heads flow better than ported LT1 heads (I've heard). So I would say a lid or K&N intake should be one of your first mods. Then the usual exhaust mods. There are quite a few simple bolt-on LS1's out there in the 12's.

in stock form these things haul, if i was going to have any work done on the rear diff i would go with a 12 bolt from stange engineering (if you have the money, $2, 600) they are supposedly bullet proof and are a direct bolt in. i have researched this and found that there are a couple of other companies with good 12 bolt diffs but that strange has the best service. just a thought.

From what it shows in your sig, your new ls1 should be faster stock than your old lt1. I would go full exhaust (LT headers, O/R Y if you don't have an emmissions concern or high flow cat y-pipe if emmissions are a concern and a good catback. Or true duals on LT's), fipk or lid and filter with the free ram air mod, ls6 intake manifold (considering you said 99 or 00 you will need to put an ls6 intake on it, 01's and 02's come with it stock), ported TB, underdrive pulley's, and a set DR's on the rear, and your car will be all set and ready to do the heads and cam when you want to, and will probably run high 12's in that state. Then after the heads and cam, you will need a 12-bolt rear, and then you can start on the suspension God do I love these cars!!!! If I left anything out, please add in guys!!!!!!

P.S. - First suspension mod I would do is a set of weld in SFC's, then a set of lower control arms. Two most important suspension mods in my opinion.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, you're definately gonna need a clutch, and since your planning on a pre '01 f-body, you're gonna need the updated hydraulics with it. I'd say go with the Mcleod Rev-Lok II on the clutch, best one for our cars IMO. Stock clutches on our cars really suck!!! They die out damn fast, especially on pre '01 models ('01 and up get the z06 clutch which isn't as bad, and can at least handle up to 385 hp or that's what they say)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The stock clutches on the pre '01 models can't even barely handle stock hp, they suck!!!!!!!!!
