help with 98 camaro starting issues

I have a 98 camaro z28. I am having problems starting it will take like 5 to 10 seconds before it will start most of the time. it will start fine sometimes. the starter will engage and the engine will crank but just will not turn over for like 8 or 9 cranks. I've had the starting and charging system checked out and the ignition module checked out so far. any ideas?

clean your air filter and take an alcohol swab to the MAF. If you're starving for air on startup that can happen. Since you have checked all ignition parts, I'd blame fuel or air.

Have you done any recent engine work like a new cam or crank? I have a reluctor wheel defect that causes my car to turn over way too much before starting.

No i haven't done anything to the car yet. i was on deployment for the last year and my wife drove it around once or twice a week so it just didn't sit in the garage and it just start doing it about two months ago.

Change out the fuel filter then check the fuel pressure.
And try this: turn on the key but do not try to start the car, turn the key back off. Repeat this twice in quick succession then on the third time go ahead and try to start the car. If it fires right up you have found the problem, a leaky injector.

Glad you figured it out! If you dont have a OBDII scanner you should invest in one! saves time and money when troubleshooting and there about $50 for a decent one!

PS: Thank you for your service to this country and all its people! Glad to see you made it home safely!

Like most returnless fuel pumps, it probably didn't hold pressure. His symptoms were a classic GM pump problem. Oddly enough both the cars with pressure regulators, and with just the tank mounted check valves have very high failure rates.
