My car has some leaves in the heater core box/assembly. When I turn on the fan, I can hear some leaves clicking inside by the fan.

The last tiem the dealer had the car in for service, the mechanic cleaned this out for me for free, but said the dealer would charge me the enxt time this would happen.

My question is how do I clean this out myself? I think the heater core assembly is under the dash on the passenger side as I did see the mechanic working on that side, but it didn't take him long at all to clean it out. So I am assuming that it is fairly easy to do. Has anyone here attempted this? How do I do it?

It's not hard at all! Remove the trim panel that's under the glove capartment...it actually just pulls down and there are 2 plastic retainers that pull down with it. Then, near the Firewall, is a little metal clamp that also needs to be removed, and that's it for getting the panel down. Then, you'll see the blower motor. Disconnect the electrical connector and then move the 3 screws that hold the blower housing. The whole blower motor and fan will pull straight down, and that's where you'll find the leaves. If you need to remove the fan from the motor, squeeze the spring clip together and the fan will slip right off the shaft. Reassembly is the opposite of removal.
