heads and cam install

went to talk to the local performance shops about a head and cam package i think im gonna go with the patriot perfromance heads amd a bigger cam from comp cams but im a little confused about the tunning part.
Ive been asking people at your typical mechanics shop about the install and tunning and i get a lot of(sure we can install it but we cant tune it for you.)they say they dont have the software to do the timming and what not but my question to all the people out there who have done a cam swap or even a heads and cam package where and how do you get the software or whatevere it is to do all the tunning to make the car right?any help would be great guys.

Re: heads and cam install

there isn't any "timing" to tune...it's more fuel/spark curves and idle adjustments to get optimum performance.

the car will learn the cam to an extent...allowiing you to drive it. you may have the occasional stall at idle, like sitting at lights. but alot of guys drive around with cams for months without tunes. it really depends on the size of the cam. small to mild cams will run pretty decent after the computer learns the cam. but more radical cams will REQUIRE tuning to run at all

It is most definitely timing ... the fuel/spark curves are just the first step. Timng is the final step ... M
