Headers and Exhaust Question...
What type of headers would get me a better 1/4 time... long or short tubes? and i plan on getting a borla exhaust, but i want to get the most horse power out of it, even if it isn't legal (in florida, we dont have emisions anymore). thanks
Don't waste your time with shorties. I haven't heard anyone post gains with them yet. Alot of folks have posted that they didn't get a gain with them though.
Mid lengths like Mac or Bassani give good gains though, if you have a car that is extremely low these would be good.
If you are stock or lowered some, but not in the weeds, you want Hooker LTs all the way. Best bang for the buck. Under $400 for uncoated.
Good luck

thanks guys... any suggestions on what i should do for my exhaust? we dont have any emissions in florida (from what i understand), so i was thinking of putting str8 pipes and stuff... maybe putting a hollowed out cat so if i get stopped by a cop and he looks under my car, he wont give me a ticket for air pollution cuz he'll think i have cats. i just want the most hp i can pull out of that sucka. thanks guys
Stay away from straight pipes, or the SLP Loudmouth, because they'll both sound like A$$, especially with headers. One of the better exhausts for the money is the Magnaflow. It will outflow pretty much anything out there, and will sound awesome with LT's.
Ratio brought up a good point about mid-length headers. The MAC's are probably the best bang for the buck out there, as you can get them with an ORY for $500 from pretty much any vendor. The Bassani's on the other hand are way overpriced, and don't deliver the same performance the MAC's would, trust me, I've seen it. Let's not even talk about shorties, because your stock manifolds flow as good if not better than them!
But, back to the exhaust. You don't have to spend big money to have an awesome exhaust, you just have to know HOW to spend the money on what's out there.
Yeah, there's alot of big name exhausts out there, but do they deliver any more performance, NO! They're just prettier.
The Magnaflow, a used SLP Dual/Dual, the Hooker Catback, all of those flow exceptionally well, and don't cost very much at all.
As far as cats go, what you could do is, cut your stock cats out of your stock y-pipe, and have whatever muffler shop you choose to install your exhaust just weld up the convertor shells around your ORY. That way, ik anyone ever looks under your car, it will appear you have cats.
