Head gaskets 2002 6.0 LQ4 engine
Just picked up a 2002 LQ4 6.0 engine with 4L80e in a running 3500 Chevy truck.
It runs great with 85K miles. I'm new to the LS engines and plan on using the drive-line in a street rod in the future.
While the engine is out I would like to replace gaskets and seals. Never had an LS apart and was wondering the procedure for installing head gaskets. I understand I'll need new head bolts that are torqued then degree'd?
Any recommendation for gasket manufacturers and which gaskets/seals should be R&R'd while the engine is accessible? Any good reading?
Thanks

4586 check out this thread =I pulled from LS1Tech.
LQ4 Head Gasket ?? - LS1TECH
I had a LQ4 that I rebuilt and put into a 96 240sx and I reused the original gm head gaskets. I did spray them down with the copper gasket maker. I ran the car with a borg warner s300 turbo pushing 5lbs boost and it did great with no issues. If budget is not an issue I would recommend GM OEM gaskets. Nothing to doing head gaskets if motor is out. Good luck.
