Hawk VS EBC Greenstuff

I am upgrading my brakes. I made the mistake of getting cheap brake pads from autozone. They fade very bad and squeal like a stuck pig. I would to get the EBC Greenstuff brake pads so that I don't have as much brake dust. But I know that brake pads have alot to do with brake performance. I don't want to get the wrong pads again. So are the EBC pads as good as the Hawk or should I get the Hawks, and if it is the Hawks, which model of the Hawks should I get?

I think Hawks are better, basically any carbon based pad is gonna be a good pad. oh, and NEVER BUY PARTS FROM AUTOZONE, THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick question. Did you install the pads yourself? If so, did you clean the front of the piston thoroughly? I am just asking this because I have purchased Hawk HPS pads before and had the squeek. I have also purchased cheapo pads that did not squeak. However, once I really got that piston and the whole area clean with brake cleaner, the squeeks are gone. It takes an extra 10 minutes to do but the rewards are great. Most of the squeeks you hear from brake pads are actually the contact between the piston and back of the pad. If there is debris seperarting the two, a squeek is bound happen. Clean it as best you can and the squeek will go away.

I know I am needing new rotors and will be doing the Autozone ones..

I dont want cross drilled nor do I want slotted.. The AZ rotors should do just fine..

to Slappy3243:

the squeak is prolly "crystalization." thats what happend to my brake pads with only like 2k miles on them. they get heated up to quick and the adhessive on the back of the pad gets on the front somehow and the heat acts like a kiln and the junk gets like glazzed on the pad and the new surface texture is what cause the high pitch sound. i was told the only fix was new pads

Definitly sounds like another possibilty. I was just throwing out some ideas based on my experiences.

After several disatisfying OEM Brake Jobs, I just went through a 7,000 mile service cycle with a pair of Power Slot Slotted Rotors and Green Stuf Pads on my '02 Z28.

The above combo worked great right out of the garage, but the rotors soon warped and heat cracked after about 3,000 miles.

I have been driving around with the "Foot Massage" feature for about 4,000 miles now, and believe it's time for another change.

This time I'm going to try the same rotors but with the Hawk HPS Pads, as I have heard favorable reports about that combo here on this Forum.

I have had very good results with Hawk Pads on My Formula Ford Race Car, after trying Ferodo and Mintex. The Hawk Blacks I use on the Formula Ford tend to wear quickly but are always ready to rock and roll and never even come close to fading..... even on violent short tracks.

I used EBC pads with Powerslot rotors on my Mustang. It was a pretty good upgrade from stock, but I think they dusted more than the stock pads.

I put Hawk HPS pads and Powerslots on my Camaro. It was a night and day difference. They dusted a bit at first, but now i'd say this is less dust than stock. After hard braking, (down from 110+) they still have great pedal feel and even at the track, nothing ever gets "mushy".

I'd definitely reccomend the Hawk pads over the EBCs.
