H/C to a Supercharger setup?

Question?

I have a heads and cam engine. The heads are PRC 799 stage 2.5 and have approximately 11:1 compression. My cam is 224/230 0.585/0.585 114. I think I may have trouble registering this cam in California.

Ruling out access to a special smog shop. If I want to guarantee passing smog I will probably need to change the cam. But I'm addicted to the performance that the cam gives me. I was thinking since S/Cs have CARB EO# I could put a smog friendly cam in and install a supercharger. Now I have power and legitimacy, right?

I would assume I would also need to reduce the compression, at least to stock LS6. Is there something I can do with the heads, like thicker gaskets (bad idea with boost, am I )? I still have the stock 241 heads and camshaft. Would it be better to take put those back on over the stage 2.5 799s?

So, can I add a supercharger with my current setup. Then what will I have to do in order to install a supercharger?

Thanks for the help.

Just get one of the split timing covers. Change to an emmisions friendly cam for registration then swap it back for the rest of the year.

I thought about that when I had the cam installed. But I was afraid of oil leakage. I was told by a firend with an 800 rwhp C5 Z06 that it could be a problem. With his background I thought i should listen.

The higher compression will actually help clean up the emissions on your heads/cam setup.

Sell the heads/cam setup and:

LQ9 heads (get you around 9.5-9.6:1 easily), baby cam, and boost boost boost. Honestly, that's a relatively cheap way (price of the supercharger is the biggest expense by FAR) to make big big power. I made 514rwhp through an AUTO on a similar setup and ran 11.teens @ 125+

I don't know.... making big power with smog restrictions isn't easy.

Good to know. I'm not too worried about making "BIG" power. I know and have talked to several people who are making over 700 rwhp. They genrally agree they wish they would have stopped around 500 rwhp. It's still fun at that range. Now they feel like they have an egg under the throttle.

Your plan sounds good. The problem is the expense. It's basically another H/C and a supercharger. I've got the 241 heads, and the OEM cam? But for a whole new H/C and supercharger setup and then I'm going to get killed on the labor. I might have to look at the LS7 option in the C6 Z06.

yes, the charger is pricey, but stock truck heads are cheap; and you could probably run a take out ls6 cam and do fine, emmisions wise.

So sell your old stuff for more than the Lq9's/ls6 cam, and recoup some money. as Kreast said. I bet you could get close to 800-1000 for the old heads/cam depending on spring wear and condition. Maybe more? Since they are stg 2.5's.

Lq9's and a take out ls6 cam, might run what? 400ish?

Sell the 241 heads ($300), sell the 799 heads ($750-800), sell the cam ($150).

LQ9 heads are around $300 used and you can get an LS6 cam for dirt cheap as well... the only real expense is the supercharger. That will get your compression down to around 9.6:1 or maybe a little higher depending on what head gaskets you use.

People have been passing CARB emissions with 224/224 114 cams for years. Just slap that in and get a retune. It'll be basicly the same performance you're getting out of a 224/230 grind but with less overlap. Honestly, I'd get a 22x grind done on some of the newer lobe profiles like EPS vs. using an old off the shelf grind.
