Before I bot my hooker longtubes on true 3' straight exhaust I had the same exhaust as you. When I gutted the cats it wasn't any louder but it probably help flow alot, I couldn't personally tell a difference in acceleration but i'm sure its good for 5-10 hp. There pretty easy to gut you have to drop the y pipe and pull the rest out. The way I did it was get a 2' rod and stick in there and "go to town with the hammer" good luck.

LG motorsports has a header Y set up w/ cats. But the cool thing about this set-up is that they give you off road sections of pipe with it also to put in the cats place.Supposed to be a easy interchange from off road to catlyst with these sections. This one is starting to get my attention more and more.

gutting your cats will disrupt airflow as it makes it more turbulant.. you are better off buying high flow cats, staying legal and getting the flow you want... either that or have test pipes put in.

35LEss, If you have a Flomaster AT kit do not get an ORP as the muffler will RASP so much it will make you sick. Trust me. But if you take the stock cats and hollow them out the Flomaster will sound kick *** as the empty cats act like a resonating chamber and will eliminate the dredded rasp.

The sound will get deeper and louder, but it will be mellow and not too loud like a Loudmouth or a cutout. Perfect if you ask me without any drone on the highway, just a nice low rumble letting you know that you have an American V8 under the hood without being obnoxious.
