Answer this once and for ever....
The way I heard it was if any Z28/SS '98-'02 had Z rated tires there is NO rev limiter or governer AT ALL. If this is true seems to me there would be some "stamp" or VIN code to prove this. What if you bought the car used and the tires were replaced. In my case I bought mine with 36,000 miles and the Goodyear RSA "Z" rated tires were all but worn out, SO I figured that was my case. HOWEVER, a firend of mine insists I have a REV limiter cause it is an A4, regardless of Z rated tires. Considering I'm a ***** in that I have hit 115-120 and backed off from there I can't seem to muster the ***** to go faster then that on even open back roads.

Upgrade your tires to Z, W, or Y-rated. After that you have a few options:
1) If just on a dyno, disconnect the vehicle speed sensor from the tranny.
2) Use a tool like a HPP3 or Predator to change the value in your PCM.
3) Buy LS1-Edit ($550). You'll ned a laptop to run the software.
4) Buy another PCM pre-loaded with the code for a similiarly configured car which came with Z-rated tires
5) Coerce a GM tech to re-flash your current PCM
6) Buy mail-order tuning from a tuning vendor. You can get minor things like this changed for $75 with their tuner version of LS1-Edit.
I believe stik6shift98 is correct with regard to native speed limiters. However, all cars have a rev limiter. The size of the OEM tires might be on the driveside door panel. My OEM's were 235/55/16 non Z-rated. I'm not sure if there are any non-Z-rated tires wider than 235.
You don't have a speed limiter directly due to your transmission choice.

ALL LS-1's come with a speed limiter. Which transmission you have doesn't matter. If car came from factory with Z-rated tires, it is set at somewhere in the vicinity of 160-162. If no Z-rated tires, then it is 118.
