Gotta replace my speakers.. need advice
One of my stock speakers seems to be busted and it is driving me crazy. It is the back seat speaker on the drivers side.. so it is basically right by my head when I drive and it just rattles no matter what. I am looking for some good replacements at minimal cost ( I know.. not asking to much huh .. lol ) Of course my car has the Monsoon system and I just want something that sounds as good as stock. I looked on the Monsoon web site and it says the speakers are 6 inch subwoofers with 2 ohm impedience. Anyone have any suggestions for replacments? And how can you tell the difference between a 6 inch subwoofer and a 6 inch non-subwoofer speaker? I know there have to be some speaker guys out there that can help.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hey,
I dont have your answer, but i have a question as well. :-) Ok, i have the Monsoon 6 speaker deal too, and i only just found out last night that the two middle speakers (beside back seats) dont produce much sound. Only a faint sound comes out of them. I'm guessing this isnt normal. Are they supposed to be the same loudness and power as the other four?

Well you can probably tell already that I dont know much about the Monsoon system. But if I had to guess.. the rear seat speakers are your subs. They are not going to have as much going through them, such as your mid to high range stuff. Which for a song or what ever you are playing that has little bass would make them sound faint. Now turn up your bass and put in something that bumps a little and they should come to life. Then again.. I could be completly wrong on this.. I am here asking advice myself.. lol.
i had this problem too. Yes, they are subs and only play low frequencies. That's why you don't hear much. If you hear nothing at all they are likely blown. You should go with a 2 ohm speaker to get the best sound. I went and bought 2 JL Audio 6.5" subs for there and at 4 ohms they don't sound no where as good as the stockers at 2-ohms. The monsoon amp doesn't push them enough to outplay the other speakers at 2 ohms. If you put a 4 ohm speakers in you're only getting half of the required power to the speaker coil and it won't produce as much. I'm kinda new to this too. The monsoon system is a crap bed waiting for someone to fall into. Too bad no other aftermarket speakers are 2-ohms. It's be alot easier for us
have i got a wealth of info on this, i have been thru all of this with the monsoon, an d learned a lot the hard way, but the facts are right off a gm wiring schematic, the 6.5" in the door are midranges rated at 2 ohms, then there is a tweeter in each door rated at 4 ohms, the ones by the back seat are 4 ohm subs, the 4" in back are 4 ohm midranges then there are a pair of 4 ohm tweeters way in back, and it sounds really bad when 4 ohm speakers are put in place of 2 ohm speakers. i have yet to find aftermarket 2 ohm speakers, if anyone has LET ME KNOW. right now i am bsck to all stock except i replace the 4" mids with normal 2 way speakers, if i could get 2 ohms speaks for the doors i would be a happy man. but the proper way to do it would be to repace the midranges with midranges at the right ohm rating, and the tweeters, and subs, but that could become quite expensive and impossible being that i have not found 2 ohm speakers, and even though car acceseries shops claim 4 ohm speaks will work, they will not.
maybe you've got 4 ohm speakers in the sail panels somehow, but most of us have 2 ohms in the sail panel and 4 ohms in the door. Maybe they did something different for the Firebirds. I know my mom's Monsoon sounds better than mine
