Got a new LS1~!

For those of you that dont know, my 383 LT1 had given me MANY problems and actually blew up with 800 miles on it soo I have been looking for another car. I just bought a 99 Camaro SS Black/Grey Leather 6speed and with 30,000 miles. You can look at the car here..http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2494225637
Do you guys know if this car has ram air or not? What bolt ons could i do? Im new to LS1's so shoot me some ideas. Thanks, Brian Kaiser

Re: Got a new LS1~!

link doesnt work...all SS's have a functional ram air...doesnt help much maybe 5 hp at higher speeds...depending on what exhaust the SS came w/, catback and lid are to good startin mods, then id get some LT headers, there reasonbly priced compared to the LT1 applications

SS hoods are nothing more than cold air in. You don't get a ramming effect unless you buy the Ultra-Z hood from SLP or something like it. Nice Looking SS. I've always loved the black ones.

Re: Got a new LS1~!

Well how would I go about modding the intake side of the motor?? I know the exhaust is going to be treated to Coated LT's, ORY, and catback with a e-cutout thrown in behind the headers. Can you do a CAI on these cars or what? Thanks, Brian Kaiser

Re: Got a new LS1~!

oh yeah, there are different vendors, but they are all pretty much the same. You can get some that scoop air from in between the radiator.
Here is a CAI for an SS.

There are allot of things you can do to free up h/p. (most of which I don't have the $$ for ) Just search this board you'll find 'em.

What are u talkin about, its a functional hood...the reason why its functional is because air is rammed into the hood...If it was a cold air there would be no need for a functional SS hood

What im debating is he said there no ramming effect which is untrue...its a functional hood which means there is...might not be alot but according to the factory its functional

Nice car! Identical to mine except mine has 73k on it and mine still has the stock exhaust. Bought it late this summer for 12k with 66k and have all receipts. What kind of exhaust is on there anyway? I'm not sure which aftermarket company uses those kind of tips.

What I'm saying is, that you don't get a ramming effect to create positive pressure inside the manifold. Yeah you will get more air flow than the stock hood, but nothing to signifigantly boost h/p because of what the air has to do to get to the intake manifold. Cold air is really the only good thing about it, and it's looks. (for the 98 SS's and up) 97's and 96's are different with the LT1. I don't know if they get any boost from the hood, but the air box is located right under the scoop.

That looks like the factory SS option SLP exhaust to me. I had the same tips on my car before going to Borla, now they're sitting in the barn.

Re: Got a new LS1~!

Basically I need to know if i should go to ls1speed.com and buy the SLP FLO-PAC or SSRA or if the stock unit is ok for 400 rwhp. If i had to choose between the 3 options, which would give me the most power? I also plan on doing pacesetter coated LT's, un-coated y-pipe and leaving the catback exhaust that is on there(looks like the SLP exhaust with the dual-dual tips. Would it be worth my money to do a ported throttle body and different MAF? If i did all this what should i look for RWHP wise? Sorry to ask the predicting HP question but im new to LS1's and my LT1 with these mods would only do around 310 rwhp. Thanks, Brian Kaiser

Re: Got a new LS1~!

What type of induction mod(ram/cold air) can i do to a SS "ram air" equipped car? I notice it is different than z-28's. Should i do something like the ssra with better filters, and an 85 mm z06 MAF? You can take a look at the link in my first post to see what the SS induction looks like. Does the ssra just kind of slip throught a hole in the airbox that you cut and slid by the radiator or what? Thanks, Brian Kaiser
