Good mods for LS1... I'm new to the LS1
Hello all LS1ers!!
I'm a big LT1 guy and know alot about the car/motor, but with changing times and have friend starting to buy LS1s and I'm thinking one myself, but I'm not sure what mods are "worth the money" and what aren't (I'm sure like LT1 some mods are just a waste of $$$).
First question is the ignition system, it looks like ever cyclider has its own coil? Are these coils worth to upgrade or is this ever possible?
Next question. I know the Air Lid is a good mod as well as gears, What else is worth the money??

Hello in Roseville/Chico from Daryl south of Fresno!
Given CARB's strangle-hold having to smog every other year in CA, all I've done with my '01 Z28 is: Hypertech; FlowMaster muffler; & K&N filter. Probably the only other options I may consider are a Mass Air flow and/or different rear gears. I queried about headers, but apparently headers don't do a hole heckuva lot for the $$, nor does replacing the exhaust system for a Borla (or similar aftermarket) alternative. My take on the information received from feedback on this forum is that ignition, spark, air and gears are the best bang for the buck on the newer LS-1's. That's not to say that all the weekend warrior bolt-ons won't give you performance increases, but are 5-10 hp worth hundreds $$$ ??? You decide...
BTW, what year is your LS-1? If interested, I still have the HyperTech programmer and having THOROUGHLY read the instruction manual TWICE it can be used on another vehicle but must be a vehicle of the same year and type. Let me know if interested. Prefer contact via E-mail at ddspdc@aol.com since I don't log on to this forum very often. Thanks!!!

Good mods:
Air lids, there all pretty much the same. I like the appearance of my SLP lid
Ram Air kits, I like my Supersucker
www.lmperformance.com/1858/1.html
Gears, 4.10's for M6's/ 3.73's for A4's
Obviously cams and heads are good mods.
Torque converters
Bad Mods:
MAFS/MAF ends/Throttle bodies, port your own and save money
Hypertech power programmer, especially for M6 cars.
Bellows
Tornado
Cags
Cat back exhausts(attracts the cops, good for at most 10rwhp for lots of money(get a cam for the same amount and see 30rwhp))

mods
I would suggest a LID / Fast toys Ram Air / Cat Back exhaust / converter (must have if its a auto) / Et streets or nittos
I would also recomend the preditor instead of that hypertech piece that others have recomended. It costs alittle more but does alot more things than the hypertech.
Those mods alone will get ya well into the 12`s as long as you have tires
If your not worried about emissions you can got Long tube headers and a cam and go into 11`s .
You dont need to modify the ignition untill you are way into the 10`s
