Good Mods?
Right off the bat I can tell you to put a KN or Holley Powershot filter in that lid. For engine mods I would definetly go with head/cam. Its the best thing to do, problem free. Watch out if you get a wild cam, the idle may be very rough and you may need an aftermarket torque convertor. Do all that with sticky tires you could be running mid 12s or better.

Just click on "4th gen mods" on the left. Sounds like you may just want to put 4.10's in the rear gears leave major engine work for later maybe.

avoid the K&N.. it doesnt fit or seal right.. it has to add a foam gasket to help it seal.. to me that means it wasnt designed for our cars.
Get the Holley. Its about the same cost.. ($50) and its blue...
I am going to run a test in about 2 weeks with a nother filter.. If it works.. I will run it..
Hush hush for now on that..
heheh

Nothing against a reusable filter ... but I really wouldn't put that in the catgory of a power mod.
You have already done the lid and the cut out ... those are yur simples ones ...
Next ... the !FRA or spend the $$ and step into some type of CAI - FTRA, Super Sucker, etc.
After that, Pulley, Ported TB, Headers - or you can gut your cats - and some kinda of tuning - Predator, LS1 Edit, Speartech or
MAFT/Timing Tuner(?). You can try MAF ends or an AM MAF, they seem to hae more success on the pre-2001, but it's still hit or miss, so don't do anything - port your stock MAF - that you can''t recover from.
That would pretty much be it for the bolt-ons.
Then you can go for the big stuff, Heads and Cam, Nitrous or a Turbocharger ... any one or all three
Of course after you've done all that then you will need to deal with all the power train and suspension mods in order to get it to the ground and keep it there .....
.... isn't this fun

Air Filter
Does the Holley fit perfect under the lid?
I noticed the other day that my intake lid is cracked on the back side...i guess its from changing the airfilter out. Hypothetically would this take some of my HP away, should i swap it out ASAP???
thanks for the help guys.

) but it's better safe than sorry, so check it.Nate
what you need are some good, big, sticky tires. maybe some suspension stuff...the car already has more power than the tires can handle. consider a new rear end if you plan on going big, and you can order that with gears already in it. dont waste your money on programmers, and throttle bodies and crap like that...you'll see minimal gains. Spend a little more and get some nice long tube headers, and then if you're not happy there go with a cam. Keep in mind that you need to build strength before serious power.
forget about superchargers and turbos, too much power for street tires to handle, for almost half the money you can do heads and get far less engine problems.

can somebody help me with abbreviations?
ported MAFH --------------what does this do?
Smooth Air Bellows! -----what does this do?
EGR--------------------------what does this do?
STB---------------------------what does this do?
160 deg thermo-----------what does this do?
thanks

ported MAFH --------------what does this do? I don't know if this is referring to "de-screening" the MAF (mass air-flow sensor), or just "smoothing" the inside so that the air flows smoother........but that's the basic idea.
Smooth Air Bellows! -----what does this do? that's the piece in between the MAFS and the TB (throttle body).........the factory one is corrogated, but a smooth one will again allow smoother (more) air flow
EGR--------------------------what does this do? Exhaust Gas Relief valve?? Sorry.........not too sure what the deal is with that one............AFAIK, '01/'02 LS1's don't even have an EGR valve? (I could be wrong though
STB---------------------------what does this do? Strut Tower Brace..................handling mod, not performance mod.........this will stiffen up the front end for better cornering
160 deg thermo-----------what does this do? stock "I think" the motors are running with a 195 degree thermostat, but regardless, a 160* t-stat allows the engine to run cooler.........and as a rule of thumb, heat + friction + moving parts = bad, so less heat = good!!

Hey, Tripp click on this
http://www.installuniversity.com/
and then"Install Documents". EGR mod in there. Also look through the tons of info in
http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/
the best site for f-body tech docs IMO. HE is also a member here.
