good idea/bad idea?

Hey, got my exhaust in. SLP dual/dual with slp y pipe. Im getting a bit of a rattle from the heat shield around the gas tank. My question is this, can i put some uncut rubber gasket material (the kind sold at pep boys in a roll) around the gas tank to alieveate the rattles, or is there too much temperature back there?
thanks

I adjusted the cat back until it doesn't hit any more rattle solved.

Its not the cat-back...its not hitting anything, my heat shield ripped at one of the screws, so that rattles just from vibrations. i just want to know if the gasket material will melt.

I don't think it will melt if you put some thick rubber back there. Otherwise, stick a big fat washer on the screw and put it back on.
