Good Exhaust For 2002 SS?

Hi Everybody,

I have a 2002 SS and am interested in upgrading the exhaust for some more ponies. I saw the kits on the SLP site and they look pretty good.

In years past, I've had good luck with Flowmaster......but I 've had trouble determining which system, if any, would fit my SS. Anybody out there with experience or suggestions in this area?

Thanks

if you want mad power and a good sound then look towards the SLP Loudmouth, it is a good kit and i think it looks better with no tail pipes or just one turn down stickin out just my 2 cents later

I'm getting a Magnaflow for mine.
You can get them for under 350 and
they are stainless steel and flow very good.
I really comes down to what sound you want.
I understand the MF to be not overly loud
but not as quiet as the SLP D/D.
If you want a real loud one I'd go with GMMG.

Most people like GMMG, from what I have heard.
how do you figure a mandrel bend adds to rust?
Rust is based off of metal type. Mandrel bends dictate that the pipe will remain consistant and without ripples through the bend.

as for the question.. decide what you want based on your goals. Do you want sound? Flow? From there decide which has what you want.

A good reference is to find a couple that you are
interested in and do a search for subjects with that.
Exhaust comes up over and over and people get
tired of posting the same thing. Plus most will say
the one the chose based on what they wanted.

They all pretty much have the same gains so
to me it comes down to sound/drone, look, and price.
Like I said I'm going with magnaflow. The only
thing I don't care for is while the tips are polished
really nice they don't have a rolled edge. Plus with
mine being a daily driver I don't really want something
overly loud. I was going to go with GMMG but its too
much for my application.

Your SS comes w/a 2.75" mandrel bent pipe. If you are looking at 3" systems you may as well just put a muffler on the stock pipes. If you are looking for performance check out mufflex (a simple search can get you their website). It can be had in 3.5 and 4" piping.

Just some of the most popular exhuasts inlcude...

<$350
Hooker: flows well, but pretty quiet and tips commonly rust, one of the cheapest systems out there
Flowmaster: not best flowing, but sounds great
SLP Dual/Dual: flows OK but also pretty quiet
Magnaflow: flows good, good deep sound too
SLP Loudmouth: Best flowing cat-back available, can be too loud/raspy though (many replace resonator with bullet, like me!)

>$350
Borla: widely adjustable flow/sound feature, pricey
GMMG: chambered, best sounding out there (from what I've heard) but loud, pricey
Corsa: good flow/sound

Considering all these options it's probably in your best interest to use the forum's search feature to get soundbites of the ones that interest you.
Depending on your budget I would suggest SLP Loudmouth for under $350 or GMMG for over $350

I'd say they're close, but IMO the GMMG sound
is a lot better-more rumble than raspy-and no
drone but twice the money.

Anybody know about power gains from the GMMG? Went to the site.....sounds great. They don't make any claims about HP though.

Is the loudmouth really that raspy? Is the GMMG worth twice the cost???
