Good deal?

I have the option to buy a 2001 Camaro Z28 (auto) with 16k miles thats been wrecked for $3200. Car was hit in front and side pretty hard but the drivetrain is unhurt. THe car is loaded with NICE black leather seats and a monsoon stereo. Hows the price sound? I'm thinking about putting the drivetrain, seats and rearend (if possible) in a 77 Camaro i have sitting around. Anyone here with experience putting the LS1 package in a 2nd gen?

Re: Good deal?

That's a good deal for what you're getting, lot better than buying a drivetrain for the swap, then all the wiring, etc., plus you get the interior pieces. Then judicious parting out of parts you don't need will reduce your total price. There is a swap section on ls1tech.com, I'm sure a search will turn up all the info you need for putting an ls1 in a 2nd gen.

Oh yeah... the 2nd gen diff (8.5") is much better that the much less durable 4th gen diff, plus the 4th gen is wider, not worth the hassle IMO.

Re: Good deal?

2nd gen could be 8.2" differential IIRC. Still better than the 7.5.

Re: Good deal?

I'd buy it in a second! some ls1/trans kits cost upwards of $5k and have ALOT mkore miles on em. plus you'll make at least another grand from parting it out.

Re: Good deal?

I bought it. I'm now thinking bout putting the LS1 in my Chevelle and the LT1 in the Camaro. I'll prolly just build me up a 9 inch for the camaro and put the 2001 leather seats in it too. Should be a nice setup.
