Getting the Ultra Z hood and not having the SS style airbox for it???

I just ordered the Ultra Z hood and wont have an airbox for it, its designed to work like the SS/Ws6 ramair hood but i will have to go w/o the air box for awhile, will it mess anything up if water gets inside the motor? And also, im going to convert it to actual ram air sooner or later and SLP dosent list an air box for that hood anymore, does anyone know where i could get something else other then an SS box overpriced from a dealer??

Uhhh ... I believe the SS airbox and the Z28 airbox are the same.

Now the Ws6 airbox is little higher than the Camaro airbox and will fit fine under the UltraZ hood.

As far as where to get one cheap, try a wrecking yard.

Good Luck

nope, on LS1 SS's the air is routed around in the hood itself (hence the reason its not terribly effective) It looks like double C's the air comes in at the top, swings around, then goes into the same airbox as a Z

The difference for the "ram air" system is all in the hood.

In the last year or two you could order a SS with a aftermarket SLP lid though. Not every car has one.

Okayyyy, looks like ill have me a ramair Z28 with two sources of air going into the intake. Does the SS have the same set up where it gets air fromt he grille area as well?

The SS get very little air from the grill ... though the air flow is still there. The hood intake comes up pretty snug to the air box ...

And you would be 100% correct.
If you plan on using the hood intake and not a free ram-air sort of thing, try a WS6 air box. Really though, the ultra Z/SS/WS6 hoods are pretty much for looks (especially SS) and you'll probably gain more from cutting out the bottom of the air box and removing the shroud.

I mean 'on' the motor, not inside it. But it looks like i wont have that problem since it will be ram air...

the ultra hood uses the stock air box the outlet on the hood comes out in front of the opening of the airbox. There's a divider inside the opening that blocks the rain. All I've done was raised the airbox about 1/2 inch with washers and put a seal around the edges on the underneath side. hope this helps ya, That hood is sweet........
