Getting the LS1 hotcam.....
Now before you all crap on me hear me out. I am a college student on a budget so $399 for the kit sits well with me. On top of that I would get hardened pushrods. I like the way it lopes with 112lsa. Sound clips can be found on www.ls1info.com . Not looking for an outrageous power source here. Just want to be able to say that I am cammed and roll into the campus car shows "loping". Can't wait to get my new "bumpstick". Any thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Great deal and it seems its what you're looking for. If you where looking for an all out cam for power I defiently wouldn't recommend it. For some reason gm ran a split pattern on that cam and the ls1s respond a lot better to single pattern of reverse splits. It'll boost your power a bit and give you that lope you're looking for and at that price I say go for it.

Might be apples to oranges but, I had the Hot Cam in my
LT1. The specs are the same for the LS1 version. I think
you will like it! It sounded awsome and really brought my
LT1 to life. You might have to get some computor tuning
to take full advantage of it though.
Good Luck!

Well for what you want, the Hotcam is a great choice. Good price(including LS6 springs), good reliability, and quality power with an AWESOME lope. You can also keep your stock pushrods with this cam. Not sure about retainers and timing chain.
The only thing is, this cam will idle like crap in your A4 without good custom tuning. Even then, it might still be a problem from time to time. It was basically meant for M6's. Although there are some guys running it with their A4's and doing OK.

hotcam output with lid,catback,hotcam

Hotcam has a great lope.. sometimes to much.
I have the trottle blade drilled to 15/64" and I
have a .022" spacer on top of the stock setting
of idle setscrew..
with M6.. I still have problems for about first 15
minutes.. till PCM can get smart..
common problems in summer.. stops with AC on
max..
MPG.. on my setup best 29.9 late at night
on way to florida 200 mile run at 75mph , cruise,
AC on..
I have 18K on my cam/spring no problems.

We changed a cam in my friends '99 SS on a Fri. night. We cracked the first bolt at 6:30pm and had it done and running at 2:30am on Sat. By custom tuning he means having the PCM shipped out and programmed or taking it and getting it dyno tuned. A programmer isn't going to help you with this much.
