gains by swapping only mufflers?

what kind of gains are there to be had from just changing mufflers on the stock ls1 exhaust? i'm not concerned with sound.

compared to stock, what would i gaiin with a flowmaster? how bout a magnaflow?

i think the flowmaster may actually be a 2.5" or 2.75" iinlet, while the magnaflow is a full 3"

any ideas? performance not sound

Neither Flowmaster or Magnaflow will give major performance gains, the 80 series Flow is very restrictive (chamberd) and the Magnaflow has a neat little flow director right at the inlet. Go with a Dynomax Ultraflow or an SLP muffler.

or a Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler, or anyother Race Muffler (Straight Thru Design) will give the best performance gains...

Performance? Next to nothing. Neither my trap speed nor my ET changed noticeably after I installed a flowmaster muffler, so I ordered and installed an ATR catback exhaust. I gained ~1.5 mph in trap speed with that.

Thats because a Flowmaster adds no power, The Stock muffler flows better it's just quieter.

I put a FlowMaster muffler on my '01 Z28. I didn't notice any significant hp increases, but it didn't hurt it either and I like how it sounds better.

I put the flowmaster 40 series on their and I really dont notice any sort of power gain either. Sounds much better though especially with the FIPK.

Best gains and best sound (IMO) is the Dynomax bullet race muffler. If you want louder/meaner get a 12" or for a little quieter get a 18" bullet. They run $36 and most exhaust shops will install them in your I-pipe and fab you a pipe in place of stock muffler for $100. Thats your best bet I think.

Ive heard nothing but good things about magnaflow, and on the magnaflow website they claim that on a stock Camaro SS they gained 13 hp and 17 tq. Take that how you will.

Look inside the inlet on one once. Everyone always makes dyno claims, but figure in normal differences in pulls and a 13hp gain could be a 2hp gain.
