so you are telling us that you have the unique ability to launch your car the exact same way, down to the hundreth of a second in a 6 speed manual car at the track???

Personally, my spare time has a price on it.. Its a price that I figure I would charge anyone else asking me to do manual labor.. Buddy rate: $45 an hour
Standard rate: $80 an hour

So a free mod, is not really a free mod IMO... It has a cost and one that doesnt add up to me..
Some say its fun to "Mod" your car.. Sure if you enjoy that.. I prefer having my car reliable..
SOTP isnt a gauge I use.. I prefer the dyno and track.. Dyno to get me some repeatable numbers down.. track to ensure that I am using as much of the numbers as I can.. So far, I havent..
Based on math, my 318rwhp should move me and my car(3660lbs combined weight full tank) with 3.42 gearing down the track in a max of 13.19 sec...
Next trip should let me know if I have reached that though..

I would rather spend the time losing weight than adding a little worthless mod...

I recommend the TB bypass. I don't recommend the FRA. FRA has been discussed many times before and a search will show why I don't recommend it.

I use to be one of those guys that would bash the free mods, until I finally broke down and did the FRA last week. Only I modified it just a little from the "classic instructions" on how to do it. My car seriously felt A LOT stronger on the top end (70mph +) to the point that i was giggling like a little girl. I really wasn't expecting to feel a difference, but when I did feel it, I was very surprised and happy. I have my car pretty dialed in and now exactly how hard it pulls...there was definitely a SOTP difference. I have let 3 other people who are very familiar with my car drive it on the highway to see if they felt the difference in the car while not telling them what I had done to it and they all agreed it just pulled harder.

I went to the track the same day i did the FRA...my best before that was a 12.67 @ 109.5......that night I ran 12.609 @ 110.51

I think its pretty clear what the difference was there.

Do the mods...why wouldn't you they're free....that is unless your time is SOOOOOOOOOOO valuable that you can't find an extra hour or two in the week. And if you're really that busy, you probably shouldn't be wasting your time on the internet talking about cars.

actually, like most.. I have tons of time here to be online.. none to be out in front of car with tools... Cest La Vie!
I actually park my car out front where I can see it all day long.. but you dont want to have me make your pizza after I have been working on my car out front... RIGHT?!

Aaaah...gotcha. Unfortunately I don't save time slips other than my current "best time". However, I'm sure a couple people on this board could vouch that I am a very consistent driver, even with an M6. I'm sure that sounds like an excuse cause i can't back it up with any concrete proof, only my word. Take it for what its worth to ya.

GMHTP Did some free mods on an automatic LS1 Trans Am and got 10.1 horsepower at the wheels and 7.6 pound feet at the wheels. It was all simple and free, so why not do it?

Also remember that this is a stock T/A. If your car is modified you may get even more of a gain

Those guys seem to run stock cars a ton faster they they are and get amazing gains from mods...Ive always questioned myself since back in the LT1 firechicken days about believing that magazine...

Hmm,they ran 13's in a slightly modded LS1.I don't see how that is an amazing gain The TB bypass itself on a LT1 was worth around 7hp on a back-to-back dyno. This wasn't from GMHTP or any other mag, this was from a guy who posted his results on his website.

they did run slower after a few mods due to poor weather and a bad tensioner.this paticuliar article seems realistic.the car they used last i read wasnt running a record breaking ET.headers and a few other minor things were added later and the car has run a best of 12.8.

I dont think they add much of anything topend, but midrange they seem to add a little bit of kick. I was skeptical until i saw the dyno from GMHTP.

Did em, no regrets. The air filter gets dirteir sooner, but its K&N... i know they arent worth any power, but at least i can just clean it up and toss it back in.
