Post FLP Install, what else should I do?

OK so if I'm doing a header install what other things should I be thinking about? I'm picking up park plugs and cables to do that install while the headers are off, but is there anything else in there that's relatively cheap to do while I have the headers off?

Also what headaches have you guys run into when installing FLPs? Does everything I need come in the package or are there things I will need to get beforehand to make the install go more smoothly. Anyone know of any install sites?

Thanks for the help guys,
Mike

You'll need to pick up a couple of O2 sims before you start if you haven't already. Just take your time, and have a friend handy. The results are worth the effort.

If you don't have O2 extenders, it's easy to use the rear O2s in the front position (they have longer wires).

Try to soak your old bolts overnight with WD-40 to help loosen them up - they tend to break off pretty easy otherwise...

Don't forget to get AIR tube restrictor plates...

You have to get the car *high* in the air. If the car is up high enough, it's a pretty easy install.

You'll have to cut a couple of inches off the front of your catback, so make sure you have something on hand to cut that pipe with (I was able to use a dremel).

That's all I can think of...good luck!

Thumbs up

Got the sims and extender with the package. Mitch from FLP mentioned that I can just swap the rear O2 extenders with the fronts. If that's true why do I need to buy the extenders?

While I was at it Mitch cut me a good price $22 on a poly tranny mount. He said while I'm under there it's a quick swap. I got plugs and wires while I'm at it. I'm usually conservative when I decide whether or not I can handle an install. Nothing seems to drastically difficult with this install, just uncharted territory. :P

Got a couple of questions:

Mitch mentioned I might need to pry on the motor a little cause the LS1 motor mounts are soft and the engine tends to sit low sometimes making it difficult to swap the headers. Is this true? What is your alls experience? Is there one side that has this problem? Do I need to pry up, left, right, forward, back, or what to get the header free?

How about the gaskets. If it such a tight space in there how will I clean the old gasket off? Do they come off clean or will I need to polish it up with a wire wheel? Do I need a special tool to clean the gasket off an aluminum engine?

Any advice about little stuff like this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,
Mike

Sorry Mike, I didn't have to pry the engine any way to get them on there.

You don't *need* the extenders, but they make it easier than swapping the front&rear O2s I guess... :dunno:

The gaskets are more like a 'gasket sandwichs', where the bread is actually metal and attached to the inside gasket - they come off pretty clean...
