First Dyno run with the Hawk
First Dyno run with the Hawk
Let me start off by letting you know my car is mostly stock except for the drop in K&N and clear air-lid.
When I got there and my engine was pretty hot, they didn't give me any time to cool it down before strapping it on the dyno and making my first run. The name of the place is Fast Enough Performance and they tend to work on mostly german cars like VW. I overheard one of the guys there say "I bet it only dynos about 230". I showed him when my first run showed 331 rear wheel horsepower and 344 rear wheel torque. They didn't have any fans or anything in there either and it was 92 degrees in their building. They continued to make 4 more runs but the numbers steadily decreased each time as my engine got hotter and hotter. My last run only showed 310 rwhp and 321 rwtq.
Over all I wasn't too dissapointed. My first run was good but things just got worse the hotter it got in there. My main problem is I have to drive over an hour to get there and my engine is really hot by the time I get there. I think I might see about getting a 160* thermostat to lower opperating temps and having them dyno-tune my car next week after I get my headers and true duals installed. I'll be sure to post the results.
For those who don't feel like reading the story:
331 rwhp - 344 rwtq

You say "Overall I wasn't too dissapointed..." So you expected much more? I think most of us would love numbers like that from a near-stock LS1. Regardless, Congratulations.
Important question is are those SAE corrected numbers or not? With temperature conditions like that, if not corrected, those numbers could be out of whack by alot. Also, it is odd seeing such a big drop in numbers like you had over 3 runs. That is VERY inconsistent. A spread of 4 or 5 rwhp is usually all you'll see in 99% of applications, not 20rwhp.
I've seen cars drive over an hour to a dyno shop in similar weather, but never really seen that much variability. I'd be a little concerned about the accuracy. Can you post the graphs?
